Who's a better singer?

Hi, I was wondering, do you think Mariah Carey or Christina is a better singer? Personally, I think they are both incredible but I definetly love Christina's style. I'd definetly buy Mariah's new album when it comes out but I would have to go with Christina

Hi BabyGirlBecca! Welcome to FanForum! and welcome to the Christina board as well.

Well, personally I prefer Christina over Mariah and I think that Christina's voice has more variety compared to Mariah's. Christina can hit very low notes and very high notes but I have not heard Mariah hit those really low notes yet. They are both very talented singers though and I give Mariah credit for being able to stay in the biz for so long now.

Heh. Tough question and finally a comparison that is justified (ie. Not Britney). I really love both girls voices, Mariah in her day was just an incredible talent and to this day some of my most favourite songs, Mariah has sung. I too will be buying her new album. But ultimately, for me Christina has the edge. I love that raw sound to her voice especially when she rips into songs like 'Walk Away' and 'Impossible'. So whilst I am a big fan of both, I prefer Christina's voice to Mariah's. I don't know who I would say has the better "technical" voice, because both girls are excellent in their own right. But as far as personal preference, Christina's deep, powerful voice just gets me every time.

I think both Mariah and Christina are amazing singers. But lately I haven't been liking the way Mariah sings in her latest work so I'd have to say I prefer Christina's voice.

Agreed. Mariah has been off for some time and totally wastes her voice now, which is a damn shame. But I've been hearing good stuff about this latest album, so hopefully it will be better.

Man, I'd totally love to see a Christina/Mariah duet. Seriously, Mariah on the high, Christina on the low? Best. Vocal. Duet. Ever!

I read somewhere that they are friends (or am I just hallucinating?) so it could be a possibility.

Christina, hands down. I feel like Mariah's voice hasn't really improved over the years, unlike Christina's. Christina has a more unique voice, IMO.

Really? Didn't know that. Well, it's great if they are. Then a duet is definitely a possibility.

Definitely Christina's. She can reach a note so low and scream so high pitched. It's amazing.

Mmmm ... intersting question.

It depends on what song I am listening to, I sometimes feel that both Mariah and Christina do to many licks everywhere; however, I do feel that Mariah is more natural when it comes to hit her notes.

I wish that they would both take a listen to Teena Maire I feel that she could teach both of these young girls a thing or two when it comes to controling the voice.

I wish that Christina and Mariah would hold off on hitting every high notes in every song and just let if flow.

Welcome BabyGirlBecca.

Interesting question and while I think both are incredible singers. I will agree with Rem in depending what songs I'm listening to. We call Christina has an amazing voice that she can take it high or low as the best of them. She can do R&B, rock, latin, contemporary music. While I'm not so sure Mariah can do some of those. Not trying to take anything away from her though, cause some of her songs are beautiful to listen to. But I'll just lean towards Christina.

And I also agree again with Rem in hoping they'd do lesser high/low notes,. Only when it's necessary.

You know what ITA with this statement I really think that some vocals forget that it's not how high your vocals get it's more of the quantity of song. Do I want to listen to this again? Does the vocals make me think of a good/bad memory? Is the beat something I can groove too.

It makes me wonder what's going on with her next album and how much say does Clive have?
