The Girl Next Door (2007) might be one of the most frightening films I've ever seen, because it masquerades as kind of a Stand By Me plot in a low-key suburban setting, then at the same time you have this scary home where this girl and her sister are being ill-treated and sworn to silence whenever they try to inform the police or a neighbor of the abuse they are facing.

Tthe film starts quietly by building up a friendship dynamic between Meg and David but around the halfway mark, Meg is subjected to the most brutal torture imaginable at the hands of the woman who is supposed to be taking care of her. Worst of all, there is an audience of teenagers and children there to watch the abuse unfold.

Think of it as CHILDREN OF THE CORN meets STAND BY ME meets MISERY.

If anyone is squeamish when it comes to rape or torture scenes, then you will have a difficult time watching this. It is mostly implied (the screen cuts away for most of it) but even that is bad enough. I do think it is an important movie to watch, and the acting of the younger cast as well as the woman who plays Ruth is very convincing.

/5 stars

Where Hands Touch

An extremely predictable ill-fated romance story that takes place during Nazi Germany times.

The acting was good (particularly for non-German actors) but I honestly predicted what was going to happen to the main couple very early on during my viewing.

Not really sure what to rate this It probably won't leave a lasting impression on me in the way that Schindler's List did, but it was a decent attempt at at WW2 movie that focuses more on the racism aspect that has not been widely covered by any WW2 adaptations.

7/10 is my current rating

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines 3/5

Overall this film was kind of not needed as there was an "origin" animated story released by DC in 2009 (ten years prior). I understand that now DC has their timeline of animated films connected in the same universe which the original WW movie isn't associated with so a stand alone WW film was beneficial.

With that said the origin aspect of the film was VERY rushed, had I not known the origin I would have been wondering what the EFF was going on. The rest of the film after that was pretty good, I know the costume change to the new 52 outfit was required as she wore that in the films prior but going back to her original outfit at the end was a bit of an odd choice. I think the art work was good, the way the hair was drawn worked well.

I've yet to see ''Bloodlines''. I watched this recent remake of ''Child's Play'' last night. It wasn't bad I thought. I do wonder why Andy's mom didn't believe him about Chucky? I mean, she could've at least given him the benefit of the doubt & that probably would have saved lives. Then later his friends didn't believe him. There were some gruesome deaths that I didn't need to see, but I knew what I was getting myself into. It was solid enough if you are into those type of films to watch at least once I think.

I can't speak for the new film because I haven't seen it, but in the original, Andy's mom pretty much thought that Andy was suffering PTSD after Chucky killed her best friend Maggie and therefore was making up stories. You do feel bad for him but let's be honest: how soon would anyone's parent believe that a doll had come to life and started killing people?

Was she annoying throughout the movie? In the original, it's about halfway through that she figures out the truth and proceeds to be very support of Andy even at the risk of being called crazy by the cops and psychiatrists.

I don't think that she was annoying. I'd guess that most children don't make up stories about dolls turning into killers, so I think as his mom she could've looked more into it at least.

The Blair Witch Project (1999) - This was one TV last night and I had not seen it in ages. The first for mockumentary style films.

I haven't seen those 2 yet, but ''Rogue One'' is the best Stars Wars film arguably. I mentioned this in the Star Wars forum. It's hard for the others to compete with it.

Ride like a girl it is based on a young girl Michelle Payne she is basically being told because she is a girl she can't enter in a horse race here in Australia called the Melbourne Cup but she proves them wrong in the end.
