I liked Maleficent, it was good. Looking forward to the second one.

Also thinking of The Hobbit and LOTR!

I can't believe I've never seen more than 10 minutes of any of the LOTR movies How on earth have I avoided them all these years? I figured I'd accidentally come by one flicking through TV channels, apparently not. I've seen an Elijah Wood/Sean Astin short clip, like once.

FANTASY/Action - STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

+ What did you like best about the movie? Why?

Harrison and Carrie reuniting on screen after all those decades was just one of those quiet movie moments that you nod and appreciate with a huge smile. I mean, this is one of my all-time on-screen OTPs. Very few words can describe the buzz I felt from watching them back together.

Also, Adam Driver was a revelation in his strong acting as their son. I hadn't watched Girls (the show) at that point, so his talent was a big surprise. I also appreciate that his character, Ben Solo, has taken after his grandfather in complexity of emotions/trying to be a leader/torn between light and dark.

+ What did you like least about the film? Why?

As much as I hate to be one of those people, many parts of the movie did seem like an effort to re-create the group dynamic of A NEW HOPE. The new cast still don't work as well for me as the original ensemble did, but they're still great together and individually talented, so I can't really complain.

+ Who was your favorite character in the movie? Why?

Harrison was able to show a new layer of Han, as a slightly broken and worn-out Han who had spent years estranged from his wife and son. I enjoyed watching him, particularly as he stepped back onto the Falcon and there was a legit smile on his face (which Harrison has said in interviews was completely genuine ).

+ Who was your least favorite character in the film? Why?

I feel weird saying Finn and Poe, because I don't hate either of them. That said, it does feel that JJ didn't really know how to make them their own characters. They have Luke and Han's traits. Finn is the typical "can't stay, won't leave" cliche you see in every adventure movie and Poe, as Oscar Isaac confirmed, was originally supposed to die (which makes sense, given how his re-appearance in the movie later on feels so tagged on just for the sake of maintaining a cute bromance ).

+ Comments:

A strong start to the newest trilogy. The originals are still currently at the top of my list, but I don't think any of the trilogies are disappointing in the slightest.

I do miss Han ( ). At least he had a noble death.

+ What would you rate this movie out of 5 stars?

I'm not a Star Wars fan but great review!

I watched the Resident Evil series and just love it every time! The action, the cast the story I find really fantastic and entertaining!

The OP title has been updated for next weekend's watch of Fantasy/Comedy!

I just read the synopsis, wow that sounds really interesting! Bruce Willis movies are usually good.

Fantasy/Comedy: LIAR LIAR

+ What did you like best about the movie? Why?

How Jim Carrey expertly uses his body for physical comedy effect That scene where he fakes a violent attack on himself to try and escape court proceedings is hilarious and looks so painful

+ What did you like least about the film? Why?

This is one of those rare movies where I cannot think of a weakness, happy to say

+ Who was your favorite character in the movie? Why?

Max was a surprisingly strong child character, who had a maturity beyond his years and played the emotional beats with his father with remarkable intelligence and deep sadness in wanting to build more of a connection with hin. I'd say Max and Fletcher's secretary, Greta, were the two best characters

+ Who was your least favorite character in the film? Why?

Fletcher's boss Miranda was such a nasty piece of work and using her sexuality to manipulate Fletcher Most of her scenes were sickening. Great actress, though! That said, I think Jennifer Tilly's character was equally repulsive in how she schemed to take her kids away from their father who was a genuinely good person.

+ Comments:

I love everything about this movie - Fletcher and Audrey's dynamic and how they find their way back to each other in spite of the odds, the whole magical wish and how it hilariously affects Fletcher's relationships and abilities... Plus, Cary Elwes' character perfectly balanced the love triangle in how he wasn't portrayed as a cliche villain. He accepted Fletcher in the end and it was nice to see.

+ What would you rate this movie out of 5 stars?

A perfect 5/5.

^^ Thanks for updating, but the dates were wrong, so I edited. It's just for the Saturday/Sunday.

So March 30th to 31st, then the next weekend will be April 6th and 7th.

I love "The Orphanage"! Great choice.

We can stick with weekend dates wasn't sure if it gave others an advantage to extend it to weekly dates.

MYSTERY/DRAMA - FLATLINERS [1990]

+ What did you like best about the movie? Why?

How it was kind of a bizarre crossover between FRANKENSTEIN, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, HOLLOW MAN and AS ABOVE, SO BELOW

Definitely included elements of all three, drawing upon themes of nightmarish images, a scientist's decision to mess with life and death, and the concept of atonement.

+ What did you like least about the film? Why?

The way it ended, I guess? Sort of abrupt, (the closing credits appear in what feels like the middle of a scene,) plus Nelson awakening seemed like a cop-out. I feel it would have been the braver choice to have him sacrifice himself.

+ Who was your favorite character in the movie? Why?

David, played by Kevin Bacon - laid back and friendly, but also smart (he's the one to come up with the atonement solution).

+ Who was your least favorite character in the film? Why?

The obvious choice would be Nelson because of his constant refusals to speak up about what's happening with the boy from his past, but I'd also say Joe. Mostly because his controversial -womanizing- plotline is not something that feels resolved by the end... Did he find atonement in how his fiancee dumped him? Was he actually repentant? Nothing was really made clear with that.

+ Comments:

A very thought-provoking, if not slightly over-the-top, storyline that touches upon themes of loss, suicide, sexuality and the afterlife.

+ What would you rate this movie out of 5 stars?

For my Mystery/Horror watch, I watched "Sinister".

Sinister (2012)
+ What did you like best about the movie? Why?

The mystery and how it was revealed bit by bit.

+ What did you like least about the film? Why?

There wasn't really anything I didn't like, I thought it was brilliant film.

+ Who was your favorite character in the movie? Why?

Ethan Hawke's character Ellison Oswalt, and how as we learn about the mystery, the same way he does.

+ Who was your least favorite character in the film? Why?

The police sheriff was an ass. Trying to run them out of town etc.

+ Comments:

Likely will watch the sequel this evening!

+ What would you rate this movie out of 5 stars?
