Troy really did have a lot of great actors. Eric Bana as Hector was a revelation and Brad Pitts' Achilles was great.

The Director's Cut should have been the original cut, so many crucial moments that wider audiences didn't get to see

The only thing that annoys me is that they changed the score for the Hector/Achilles fight, which was one of the best things about the Theatrical Cut.

Plus Orlando and Sean Bean had just finished doing The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring together, so it was nice to see them in something new.

Agreed.

It was great seeing more of Sean Bean in the Extended version; they delved into Odysseus' farming + family life much more.

These little details could have made all the difference in the original cut.

Although, some people will never respect this film because it changed the fates of Helen and her husband.

Well, it does say it's based on the Illiad, not that it's fact.

So people who end up disappointed need to read the fine print, so to speak!

I remember meeting a Classics professor, who hated the movie and she was warning her class not to watch it whilst they were studying The Iliad.

Well if they were studying the Iliad at the time, and tried to cut corners, then their papers/essays would be incorrect. It's more 'Inspired' by the Iliad then based on any kind of facts from it.

True, but she couldn't even acknowledge the film on its own merit because of its inaccuracy compared to the book.

She basically said it was a waste of cinematic screen time.

I'd like to revisit this one some day. Maybe we'll get a 4K release as this would definitely shine in the format.
