yeah, there's not even a blu-ray regular update on True Lies and Abyss, so i'm not holding my breath for 4K versions any time soon. ugh. you can get the worst movie trash on blu-ray instantly, but nope all the old 80s and 90s classics are just sitting around on dvd and god-awful glitchy streaming services. yeesh.

Exactly, it's so unfair. The Abyss needs an update more than any movie I can think of.

I can't get over how cold Kate looks in this pic -

I remember her saying that

She should be proud for her dedication to the role. Same goes for everyone and of course, Mr Cameron

They would spend like 10 hours in the water or something.

I like that Jim Cameron cared about getting real reactions from the actors.

The same applies to his other movie, The Abyss - he had Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio hold her breath in her death/resuscitation scene and she was so uncomfortable that she stormed off the set for a while ...But it worked for the intensity of the scene

while it's not a bad thing to want the acting to be as realistic as possible, but I think when it affects an actor's health then perhaps that's going a bit too far...hypothermia is a very serious and dangerous condition, and in more severe cases can be deadly. Kate was lucky that she suffered only mild hypothermia, so she recovered quite quickly, but it could've been worse.

anyway, I love this Jack & Rose reunion kiss at the end

that entire sequence was so beautifully shot, with the ghost of Rose returning to the Titanic and being reunited with Jack then kissing in front of all the other victims who clapped was perfect

True, and of course it might seem a stretch to support dangerous acts during filming. That said, look at what Christian Bale puts his body through to make his roles convincing Sometimes, in order to achieve the best results, the limits need to be stretched. Titanic was based on a real life tragedy and knowing we can't even contemplate how freezing the water was in the actual event, I think it shows how much James wanted to achieve the closest thing to accuracy. You feel the intensity of both the Titanic and The Abyss water scenes, because of the level of commitments from both the actors and the crew.

That was a clever ending scene
Showing a vision of the afterlife could have come across as sappy, had it been handled by a less capable director. Fortunately, they juxtaposed it with older Rose's death scene, and so it comes across as very romantic and bittersweet.

while it's not necessarily a bad thing to stretch the limits in order to achieve the best results and making the acting as realistic as possible...but when it endangers the health of the actors then I think that's going too far and not necessary. I would rather settle for a slightly less than best result than to see the actors' health be put at risk.

I agree the ending wasn't sappy at all, the transition from the scene with the dying Rose lying peacefully in her sleep to her spirit transporting back to the Titanic and reuniting with Jack and the others was so seamless and very clever indeed and beautiful the Jack & Rose reunion with all the other victims in the end is probably one of the best moments in the entire film, and I have many favourite moments in the film, but I think that reunion in the end is probably my absolute favourite!

wow that kiss is HOT!

I wonder why they deleted that scene, they should've kept it in!

Thanks for sharing

I think I remember Jim Cameron saying they deleted the scene because it would have ruined the suspense leading up to their romantic scene in the carriage

Susan Sarandon did it for Rocky Horror and was paid far far far less (she got horrible pneumonia).

It must depend on the Director some daring to take scenes where others wouldn't. Mr Cameron has always been an all or nothing type of guy.

I give Susan (and Kate) credit for doing it without complaint
