It was, lol. It was made on a piss poor budget, filmed with crappy equipment in terribly hot conditions in the early 70s before technology allowed filmmakers the freedom they have now.

I enjoy the prequels/sequels/spiritual sequels (Texas Chainsaw 3D was a spiritual sequel to the original, completely retconning the entire series)...but more out of a "I'd rather see the series alive than having no new movies" feeling

The best TCM is the 2003 remake. I've seen the original and it's classic but the 2003 version is just more bloody and gore...

Remake is definitely better action and suspense than the original. The only difference that I make the original as my favorite is because I put my mind in the eyes of the audience at the time. Right now, nothing bothers us and you can put anything in theaters and nothing has shock value....but when TCM came, people were throwing up and leaving the theater in terror. Some places had barf bags, too. That's classic! Now, if someone threw up to a movie in theaters, they'd be considered a wimp and booed out of the place, haha.

I'm so happy you knew that! So true! Tht's when horror movies were original and new. Now, it's all been done and we're calloused as a society to violence and the pornification of things. That's why horror movies keep getting more and more brutal....to try and push it farther. The next honest step is killing real people on camera for entertainment....and it freaks me out because I can see that being real in a few years.

^^^ It's real now. Some so-called 'snuff' films have been questionable...

The 2003 remake was ok. It wasn't that much more violent than the original, if at all. The best ones are the original 1974 film, and Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III.
