Ive always been a big fan of Stephen King's work, mostly in his older work like IT, The Shining, Firestarter, etc. He is just a talented director and writer when it comes to horror.

I think he's an exceptionally talented writer and creates fantastic stories, but I'm not so sure about his director abilities (don't think I've ever seen one he's directed...as far as I know).

My real problem with his films - the people that direct them (aside from Mr. King, himself) don't do the stories justice! I'd LOVE to see a remake of his movies done the way he wrote them, you know? His stories are so rich and so perfect for film, but the studios are often too cheap to do them justice (that's the only explanation I can think of).

Really - his mind must be a treasure trove of horror! Imagine his childhood... (which is why I liked Lady in White, although it got too convoluted and ultimately didn't make much sense, it had potential and felt like an 'in' to the fantastic mind of this talented man).

I completely agree with you. Some of the films he has directed were pretty cheesy indeed, take for example Creepshow and Creepshow 2. Though I do like those films since I tend to like cheesy movies, I can see why alot of people didnt find it all that scary as to falling over their chair in laughter. (My cousin did that once, nearly smacked him, lol) He is a great writer though (even though I havent really read any of his recent books) The Shining will always be a favorite of mine.

It's funny how some people find some things creepy and other people don't, and vice versa.

Right after I graduated from college I spent a summer in NYC interning at the Metropolitan Museum, and the apartment I subletted was owned by this woman who was a Stephen King fan. She owned all his books to date (this was some time ago so I know he's written quite a few since then). She only had a tiny black-and-white TV, and the whole apartment setting was kind of like Rear Window (even the apartment was SUPER tiny). I spent that summer reading through a lot of her collection and it was wonderful. Ah, memories...

I adore Stephen King. He's written some fantastic work, but hasn't always received the recognition he deserves.

I recently saw "1408" in theatres....twice. And I loved it. My main motivation for going to see it was because it was based on a story written by Stephen King.

Stephen King is a great writer, my favorite in fact.
I just love the book The Shinning and can read it
over and over again, the movie was just as great.
Nicholson did superb with this portrayal of Jack in
the movie, although others think the mini series
is better:sigh:

actually, George A Romero directed Creepshow
and Stephen King wrote the script, they're great
friends and decided to do the movie together.

Me too! But only if it didn't ruin the book.

Yeah. I don't want it ruined. I'm surprised it hasn't had a movie or tv miniseries yet. It's written really well, it would translate to the screen easily(if they found the right crew for it lol)

I love Stephen King, he's the first author that got me interested in reading.

It's pretty well known that Stephen King makes a cameo appearance in all of his TV/Movie works.

I recently saw "1408", twice, and still cannot find where he would make his cameo.

Does anyone know which scene he is in?

I love Stephen King. I admire him as a director but I have yet to read one of his novels. I'm getting around to it.

All of his movies always make my skin crawl and they always freak me out the most. The creepier they are, the more I love them.

Funny :look:, I had no clue that he had written 1408. Wow now I really can't wait to see it.
