In the wake of Luke Perry's passing I wanted to reminisce about a movie he was in that he was so damn cute in - 1992's BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER


Very different in tone to the successful TV show, but Luke's chemistry with Kristy easily made the movie very watchable.

I love that the article points out Pike as being age-appropriate, human, and not boring as being the reason why he beats the other 3 as her best boyfriend

I think that movie is one of the reasons I couldn't get into the TV series.

The show was pretty much everything that Joss had wanted the movie to be.

The movie focused on the humor aspects (and not subtle either), and didn't nail the bleak supernatural tone of vampires so it did come across as silly.

Kristy Swanson was a worthy Buffy, though, and gave her all

That said, I adore the Buffy/Pike pairing and their ending where they ride off into the sunset together on this motorbike parallels Sabrina Spellman and Harvey Kinkle Both great things to happen in the 1990's.

It's actually refreshing to see someone with this viewpoint

As someone who likes both, I hate it when fans of the show speak of the movie as if it's garbage.

The movie has the same plot of Buffy's backstory but doesn't take itself seriously. Parts of it are cringey (remember Paul Reubens' character?) but Luke and Kristy are hot on screen together

It's worth giving a go, if you have a sense of humor and aren't hoping to be scared (it has some of the silliest vampire scenes ever ) -- the movie that is, not the show.
