A Scanner Darkly (2006) #1

There's this flick that stars Keanu Reeves, Woody Harelson, Winona Ryder, and Robert Downey Jr. about a man (Keanu) believes his life is mind-controlled by the government or someone controlling him. I didn't get much info about the sypnosis of the film, but it looks pretty good with a sort of 3D art CGI animation in a way telling the story.

Ooh, thanks for starting the thread!

I'm absolutely looking forward to this and it's gotten terrific reviews so far (not that I pay attention to reviews, but good reviews do help). I think the technique is fascinating and I'm curious to see if I can tolerate looking at that for 2 hours.

I've heard reviews that the animation makes the characters that much more complex, giving them more depth and interest than if you just watched the actors. I'm rather curious about that.

Thats interesting because I think the animation is part of the reason why I'm not really looking forward to this movie. It's kind of distracting in the previews. It's very different from standard animation. I don't think I could sit through a whole movie with that effect in it.

I can't wait to see the movie, where I live it's not playing until August but hopefully I'll be able to catch it when I'm in LA next week.

Really? I think I can handle it but maybe because it reminds me of the animation done with an early version of The Lord of the Rings (I think done in '79 or '80?).

My family hated it - and I made them watch it twice - but I loved it. This looks similar.

Ooh, this thread has drawn out a bunch of newbies! Hiya, everyone!

The animation looks like cell shading similar to the video game XIII. I wouldn't mind seeing the movie but I don't want to drive to Dallas to see it. I will wait and see if it comes closer to home. The movie looks interesting but I just hope it's not like adult japanese animation. That stuff grosses me out and is creepy.
