He looked so frightened in the sequel Dorfman played that really well. I liked the contrast between Aiden in the sequel and the first movie, where he was more detached and providing the almost philosophical voice for Rachel about Samara

I re-watched the special feature Rings, which is a 20 minute short film on the DVD of The Ring 2 (and something I found creepier than the movie itself ) starring Ryan Merriman who played Kevin in Final Destination 3.

It is a clever character-based short film, which takes the guy who dies at the beginning of the sequel and documents his 7 day journey after watching the tape, which involves him being betrayed by supposed friends who want to see what happens to someone on the 7th day.

That's interesting! Merrimen is a good actor but I forever cursed with that babyface!

I think the sequel would have been better if they had included that special feature as an actual scene, rather than just starting with his death.

Getting to see his journey in those 7 days was interesting. He was literally in a panic because this gang of Goths pretended they would watch the video to save him but it turns out they tricked him and that's why he's so scared and in a rush with that girl at the beginning of The Ring 2.

I end up feeling so much sympathy for his character in this ~Special Feature~ that was lacking in The Ring 2, because that movie skipped his backstory

Yeah they don't always want to put the heavy backstory on people either, for some it's more about the visual scary.

I think it would have helped the sequel, to include it. I've seen so many viewers complain that it looks ridiculous how he's waited until the last moment to BEG that girl with him to watch the tape, and yes - it looks ridiculous, because they skipped the crucial parts in the special feature which explained why he was in such a last-minute panic mode.

^^ It also makes the sequel come across as banking more on the creepy put there from the first film rather than adding to it.

Definitely. I mean, the beginning of the sequel feels so rushed. You're introduced to Ryan Merriman's character, then BYE!

And the girl with him gets shifted off to the police station where she's basically never seen again because the film decided to forget about her.

Ugh, I'm telling ya - the special feature RINGS had more layers to it than the entire movie.
