More News Concerning, Resident Evil 4:

"I'm writing a script right now. The script side is happening. It's going to be difficult what's happening when until the whole SAG [strike] thing is resolved. But that's something I'm working on right now. Everyone at [game developer] Capcom has had their input into the idea and they're all very excited. I don't want to tell you what it is but it's very exciting. Once again we're doing it completely with the blessing of the videogame company. We got a lot of flack [on the sequels] for, 'Why isn't the movie set in the mansion just exactly like the very first videogame?' That's just not progression for me. As the Resident Evil videogames themselves have developed in leaps and bounds -- it's like when we did the last movie people were like, 'Resident Evil doesn't take place in the desert. What the (expletive) is this?' Well, where does Resident Evil take place? Does it take place in Raccoon City exclusively? Well, I don't think so because the game has been in Antarctica, in Raccoon City, now it's in Africa. The game is constantly and so is the movie franchise. We're doing it very much in conjunction with the developers of the videogame to give the audience something fresh but something that fits within the world of the videogame."

The filmmaker wouldn't spill the beans on whether Resident Evil 4 would center on Milla Jovovich's Alice or Ali Larter's Claire Redfield. "I can't say right now," he said, then laughed, "I'm no more secretive than Capcom. I was having a meeting with Capcom and I asked about the future of the Umbrella Corporation. 'The Umbrella Corporation has many secrets.' Well, what does that mean?!" [ full article ]

News on the now Titled "Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)":

A year after director/scribe Paul W. S. Anderson said he is working on fourth "Resident Evil" movie, reports on possible release date are coming in for the fourth installment of the video game adaptation series. Shock Till You Drop (STYD) recently broke out that the studio eyes to release the movie in U.S. theaters by September 17, 2010.

STYD claimed the news came from a Sony insider suggesting that an internal memo of the matter has circulated through the studio's offices. In addition to the potential release date, the site reported that the fourth movie is likely to be called "Resident Evil: Afterlife". Screen Gems, Sony's subsidiary company which has produced the previous "Resident Evil" movies, is yet to give any official comment on the story.

Back in late 2008, "Resident Evil" director Anderson has told IGN that he is writing another installment of "Resident Evil" franchise. "I'm writing a script right now. The script side is happening. It's going to be difficult what's happening when until the whole SAG [strike] thing is resolved," he said at the time. "But that's something I'm working on right now. Everyone at [game developer] Capcom has had their input into the idea and they're all very excited."

Though noting that he is working on the project, he remained coy on whether the fourth film would center on Milla Jovovich's Alice or Ali Larter's Claire Redfield. So far, Jovovich has yet to confirm her involvement as Alice in the project. [Spoiler Alert!] Words are, the story will shift to Tokyo, Japan as hinted in the end of "Resident Evil: Extinction".

ShockTillYouDrop.com broke the news to you earlier this month that Screen Gems was gearing up for Resident Evil: Afterlife.

A release date's been set (September 17, 2010), Milla Jovovich is back and Paul W.S. Anderson has penned the script. No word on a director yet, however, Production Weekly reports the fourth entry has locked in an 8-week shooting schedule at Cinespace Film Studios in Toronto. Shooting begins on September 28th.

This bring the Resident Evil franchise back to Canada after 2004's Resident Evil: Apocalypse. The last entry, Extinction, lensed in Mexico.

No it's a Series now!

Rumor has it that Anderson wants to create a 6th and final movie to close out any open story lines in the franchise.
