I just watched the movie after AGES of not seeing it and man, Roger and Mimi get better with time, as if that's possible!

Also, the second part of Goodbye Love shouldn't have been taken out. No matter how many times I watch the movie, I never get used to not having that scene. It's such an important, powerful scene.

Mimi's "Hello, disease" breaks my heart every single time I watch the deleted scenes. They should definitely have let this in, but I understand they needed to make the movie shorter. The movie is 135 minutes long, which is quite impressive for a musical.

TOTALLY agreed. I watched the movie two weeks ago, and I showed it to my friend with the deleted scenes and she was like "how can they NOT put that in the movie?" Nobody really gets that "I think she started using again, I'm afraid she dropped out of rehab" thing after "What you own" if they haven't seen "Goodbye Love" completely.

I remember Chris Columbus said it would have been too depressing, leaving the two other parts in. Sure it IS sad, but that's how the last part of the musical is, with people dying, leaving and getting sicker every day. I always flinch when "What you own" starts right after the first third of "Goodbye Love". The mood's swinging just too quickly.

Exactly!

The "Goodbye Love" clips always made me tear up. I remember one from the OBC where Adam was totally in a rage singing the second part and Anthony was playing against him and my goodness, that broke my heart. But it's such a well written part of the musical, it's an injustice that it wasn't added back in the movie for the DVD.

Goodbye Love will always be one of my favorites. Scene and song. Just the range of emotions that go on. How Roger, Mimi, Joanne and Maureen are extremely angry then to the end where it's just Mimi laying her heart out and "letting him go", while Roger's afraid and running away and Mark's just watching it all not knowing what the heck to do. I love the little look between Roger and Benny after Roger leaves the building and Benny's going up. That little look of shock and then an "I knew it" look before getting into his car.

The fighting scene in Without You.

Every time, every single time, I swear my heart breaks at that scene. Just how distressed and betrayed he looks hurts and then how she tries to cling to him.

I think it's been portrayed so well how torn Mimi is between Roger and her drugs. She's trying so hard to fight it, but she can't really. That's something that gets me every time. And it seems that after Angel's death everyone and everything that has been the friends' world is falling apart.

That line and her "you don't want to watch me die". That breaks my heart every time. She knows what's happening to her and she knows that it's gonna happen soon

Seriously! Oh yeah, that line. Man, when he holds her in "Your Eyes" and you think of the "you don't want to watch me die" line, it's just terribly sad. He really doesn't want to watch her, but he wouldn't have it any other way. So he sang his song and told her everything he hadn't before.

Tay - That "I knew it" look really gets me too. That whole part of the movie is so intense. Well, of the deleted scenes. Heh.

I agree. Mimi "needs" her drugs in her mind, but she also needs Roger. As Angel get sicker and once he dies, they just crumble. Instead of sticking together, they fall apart.

I love how he runs down to where Joanne and Maureen are when they find her. I can just imagine him flying down the stairs to at a time. The "It's okay, we got you, we got you" line before they start singing Finale A is so desperate sounding. Mimi's hand on Roger's face as he's singing Your Eyes to her really gets me. She's trying to cling to him and her life.

It's so sad that part wasn't in the movie. I can't say it often enough!

I'm so glad Jonathan decided to have the musical end with life and not with death. Just imagine how it would be if Mimi died in the end and that's it?

Oh! And you know what's also heartbreaking? When Mimi tells the group that she saw Angel and that she looked good, and Collins does that half-cry, half-laugh thing. God, I feel so sorry for him every time I watch that

I can't imagine RENT ending with Mimi dying. I don't think I could if I tried. it just fits with the whole theme Jonathan was going for. Life and Love.

Collins' half-laugh, half-sob just tears me up. And then how he collaspes onto Mimi and she gives him that awkward laying on top of him hug. It's so easy imagining Collins and Mimi being good friends because they were closest to Angel.
