Period Dramas: All Corsets and British accents?

Hi! Anyone want to discuss period dramas? I love them dearly so I would like to know what people think. You could name some of your favorites, non favorites, or what aspect of the genre you like/dislike the most, etc. You could also just recommend a little known period drama you like.

I'm in love with Jane Eyre (2011) at the moment. I watched it a long time ago, but lately I've been getting more and more into it. I love how the movie looks, the way it feels, the fact that Thornfield becomes a character once Jane arrives and walks through its darkened halls. Perfect. I thibk The Red Room scene could have been creepier, but I won't complain too much about that.

Anyone else?

They are! A great mixture of escapism and bits of history.

Same. I've always loved them, ever since I was a kid.

Netflix has a lot of great made for TV period dramas that I need to watch! Also some Austen adaptations I've never seen.

Does anyone have a list of their faves? Or a review on what they've watched?

Oh I have so many I have seen and want to see still.

I believe I have seen every version of Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Mansfield Park and Sense and Sensibility. I love Anne of Green Gables, North & South, Persuasion (2007), Austenland, Becoming Jane, etc.

Awesome list! I'm working my way through every Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice movie/mini series I can find.

I just love Mansfield Park (1999). I love Fanny because she's not the conventional lead, but she's still pretty fierce in her own right. Her attachment to Edmund is the sweetest.

Ooh I still gotta watch Fassy's Jane Eyre I'm currently obsessed with Austen's Emma.

Has anyone watched Tess Of the D'Urbevilles - Gemma Arterton as the lead?

Wasikowska and Fassbender are simply phenomenal IMO. Perfection. Jamie Bell as St John worked out beautifully as well. And Dame Judi Dench as Mrs. Fairfax?? Ahhh. Wonderful.

Oh, I love Gemma Arterton so I have to check it out! Thanks for the rec. Not sure it's on Netflix but I'll check.

I'm practically drooling at that description!

A word of warning - you'll be very emotional at the end! Let us know what you think
