Was he making it sound like it had to happen? Yeah, he'd say anything to try and fool us into believing this was the right decision for the show. It's ridiculous. Logan's funny and charming personality was the reason why so many of us got hooked all those years ago.

I think he projects himself onto the more normal BFs she had like him and Piz, and can't relate to Logan thus doesn't even try to see how his arc deserved a non-tragic ending.
