What was so sad is that you want to dislike Lon (Marsden) but he's not a bad guy in the least! If I hated it him it would have been easier!

He's probably the worst guy you could ever cheat on. (Not that cheating should EVER be condoned, but) Lon is such an honorable lover and even after he finds out what Allie's done, he says the sweetest thing:

THE NOTEBOOK isn't my favorite romantic movie, but I do admire how the writer had the guts to depict the triangle as a non-straight forward choice.


For instance, I adore Noah's relationship with Allie when they're younger, and I admire that he continued to love her all those years later, even building her dream house ...But we also see the story from Allie's POV. She didn't know that Noah kept writing to her, so she moved on with her life, met Lon, and he was a genuinely good guy who loved her for who she was and continued to do so even after she hurt him... I think Allie's choice was not a simple one, and it made the story that much more heartbreaking.

I hated her mother for keeping her letters, when she herself had fallen in love with someone of a 'lower class'.

Such a hypocrite she was!

But I also loved how they showed how Allie was torn. She didn't want to hurt Lon, but she was still in love with Noah.
