Very true. And I think some hate Lon just because she was with him. Her actions show she was human and had flaws like you mentioned, like anyone else.

Wow, how could anyone hate Lon?

He's a totally sweet guy, only being guilty of loving Allie enough to let her go. Same as Noah.

It's sad that people see Lon as an obstacle, when he literally had no idea about her past with Noah until the end of the movie.

Die hard Noah and Allie shippers hated Lon.

It was sad, they wanted someone to blame for their not being together right away because Allie weighed her options for both Lon and Noah.

That sucks

And maybe that's partly why I wouldn't call myself a 'shipper' of Noah and Allie. There's too much baggage that comes with the whole concept of it, and the fandom itself uses Lon as a scapegoat to vent their frustrations on.

I loved that whole montage of their crazy passionate summer romance

And then he went to dinner with her family, and it was like reality set in and things weren't so fun anymore.

You could see that her Father was more willing to give him a chance, but her Mother was on the all-out attack mode and trying to get rid of him (which we later find out is due to her own bad dating memories

)

The thing with the mother being more against it was almost like jealously. Why should her daughter have the happiness she never really got. Yes she loved her father, but she was and always would be in love with her 'lower class' true love.

And I think she only comes round to the idea of Allie/Noah once she realizes that she could lose her daughter.

Reminds me Jack/Rose in TITANIC. A breakdown in communication between Mother and Daughter.
