Based on a line in that report.

Can we assume if she had been wearing a helmut that she may have survived?

Just thinking of that makes it seem so much more depressing. Thinking it could have been prevented.
Actually that's discussed in another Time article:

Could a Helmet Have Saved Natasha Richardson? - TIME

Quote:
One of the most common collision-related head injuries is a concussion, which occurs when the head moves at high speed and stops suddenly as it strikes a hard object. The brain, which is snug but not completely stationary inside the head, may continue moving, colliding with the inside of the skull. This leads to swelling or bruising or — much worse — bleeding. A brain-bleed is immediately life-threatening, but swelling is less so and may not even be evident for a little while, which is what appears to have happened in Richardson's case.
Quote:
The fact that Richardson was not wearing a helmet may or may not have made a difference in the gravity of her injury. If skiers are moving slowly — say 10 m.p.h. or slower — and they fall on soft snow, they're probably not going to be hurt severely, whether they're wearing a helmet or not. If they're moving faster than 15 or 20 m.p.h. and strike ice, hard-packed snow or another solid object with the head, they're likely to suffer severe injury, and again the presence of a helmet may not make much difference
Since it was a concussion, the helmet wouldn't have made much difference..Or maybe we'll never know.

I still cannot believe it You see pictures of her and she was always so full of life...but a simple accident takes everything away in a second...Such is life...

If they figure out that a helmet could have saved her, I'd hate to be that ski instructor. I'd expect a firing and maybe even a court appearance. How negligent can you be?

Are you kidding? Right now there are no mandatory helmet laws. Sure they encourage the use, but its not a LAW. The instructor cant be held responsible, despite how tragic the accident is. I dont mean to make it a debate, Im just saying you can't say the instructor was negligent. The only court appearance Id see him/her in, is if the company does fire him/her over it. Then he/she could take THEM to court.

Anyways. A terrible, terrible accident. My heart goes out to her family and friends. I loved alot of her work. Asylum was great, and I have a spot in my heart for Blow Dry because of her and Alan Rickman

Whoa... Sorry! You don't need to jump down my throat. With all the talk about helmets with this accident I just assumed that if you're an instructor and someone is just beginning to learn skiing, they'd have them wear a helmet. Sorry, I'm not a skiing expert so I don't know the skiing laws.

Sorry..I didnt mean to come off that way. I've had so much debate over skiing safety I think I snapped at 2am when I wrote that. I apologize.

In any event it surely is a terrible loss. Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but here are what some of her colleagues have said about her

It should be a law to wear a helmut. Regardless if you're a beginner or expert, so maybe that will change with the news of this tragic accident.

Free Willy should have stopped after the first one, but when the world revolves around money, then here come the sequels.

A burial service was held for Natasha Richardson on Sunday, her family and close family friends were in attendance.

She does kinda resemble her. And she has a lovely voice.

More movie news...

Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley has signed on to play Freddy Krueger in New Line's forthcoming Nightmare on Elm Street reboot, EW has learned. The actor, who received an Oscar nomination for his role as a sex offender in 2006's Little Children, will take on the part famously originated by Robert Englund when cameras roll on the franchise's ninth film, titled A Nightmare on Elm Street, on May 5 in Chicago

Oh boy, I want to be mad it's not Robert Englund but Jackie is an exceptional actor and kind of perfect for the role. I hate being torn like this.
