I really liked this movie. I never got bored, which is like a record for me because usually I'm half watching the movie/ half playing Family feud on my phone!

"National Treasure": Freemasons, Fact, and Fiction
Stefan Lovgren in Los Angeles for National Geographic News November 19, 2004 Imagine this: Centuries ago an order of European knights amassed a huge treasure of priceless artifacts from around the world. The loot was later brought to the United States by the Freemasons, a secret society. Determined to keep it out of the hands of the British during the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin and other Masons hid the treasure in a secret location but left clues to its whereabouts in famous American landmarks. Read the full story. Nicolas Cage, who plays Ben Gates in the movie National Treasure, steals the U.S. Declaration of Independence to uncover clues that will lead him to a treasure his family has hunted for years. I saw it last Monday, and I really really enjoyed it. I've highly recommended it to anyone who'd listen.
The action was great, but I loved the humor injections. They didn't seem out of place at all. Then small clever things made me laugh. The best one was the grandfather telling young Ben the story. When there is a scene of the pyramids as Mr. Gates tells the story, we see his eye over the broken pyrimid. That was perfect, and very cute. Plus, Sean Bean in a movie is an extra treat. I honestly dind't know he was in there until I saw it. I also agree with pixiedude that Diane Kruger looks like Shannon Kenny. I didn't think about it until reading your post, but I can totally see it now. |

Treasure Tops the Thanksgiving Weekend
After a slow year so far for the studio at the box office, Walt Disney Pictures made a big comeback with a one-two punch over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend. The studio's National Treasure, starring Nicolas Cage and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, was the top movie for a second straight weekend with $46.2 million for the five days and $33.1 million for the three-day Friday-to-Sunday period. The $33.1 million is the sixth-biggest figure for the three-day Thanksgiving frame. The action-adventure has collected $87.9 million in two weeks. Sasha |

Ebert and Roeper are weird sometimes. They love many movies I hate, and hate many movies I love.
