Not trying to make excuses (even though it will sound like one

) but he was consumed by jealousy at that point. When he sees Satine looking at Christian, he feels taken for a fool. It doesn't make how he acted right

but he clearly goes into an uncharacteristic rage. He's not used to having feelings for someone, and to know that they're not returned is clearly something he's even more not used to.

^^ That's very true, he was promised Satine and she honestly mistook Christian for the duke at first so.

Yep, so if things had been different and the mistaken identity hadn't happened, then the Duke might not have been left feeling so humiliated and lovesick. (But Satine would still have died

Moulin Rouge is a lovely movie. I love how it shows you outside and its miserable and gloomy compared to the inside where it is happy and colorful.

Yes, the visual imagery was wonderful

It showed how everyone was living in a bubble inside the Moulin Rouge, and that it was escapism for people outside of their banal lives (Christian being a prime example).

^^ I've not seen the original in so long I forget a lot of it. But with a re-make, they want to be more diverse, that's sort of the going thing, so I wouldn't hold on to expectations of it being like the original.
