I was late to the movies but really got into their trio chemistry People always argue that the movies don't fully honor the books, but that's a tough challenge for any adaptation.

I also adored the friendship between Hilary and CC in BEACHES - I loved how two totally different personalities could so beautifully fit together.

I love Wilbur and Charlotte's friendship. I hate when she dies, it makes me cry every time.

yeah I cried re-watching

it’s sad when Wilbur wanted to tell the baby spiders about their mother and they’re all flying away but then it’s sweet that 3 of them stay and then he gets to tell them about Charlotte

Heather, Mike and Josh - The Blair Witch Project (1999)

What I like is that beneath all the arguments, complaining and teasing - and no matter how scary things get in that forest - they remain loyal to each other and clearly care about each other, enough to risk their own safety to keep track of each other. Also, their banter and chemistry is so strong.

I love how the guy/Britney's eventual love interest (whose name is lost on me) initially had this macho thing about wanting the car to just be his, and yet he ends up getting used to this friendship trio accompanying him and even joins in with their singing

Shuya, Noriko and Kawada in BATTLE ROYALE

The unlikely trio, two of whom are quite timid, really emerge as the victorious ones by the end. Even though Kawada dies, he does so in the company of his two new friends ("I'm glad I found a friend at the end" ) and to be honest, without Kawada's help, Shuya and Noriko would've been very vulnerable to attacks. Yes, the teacher helps out Noriko on one occasion, but it's still in an isolated place where Kawada took her for safety.

Kawada is very much the unsung hero of the story, coming to the island with revenge in mind for being forced to play the game in the past and witnessing his girlfriend's death in his arms. He helps these two kids without asking for anything in return, immediately setting himself as the opposite of Kiriyama, the other non-classmate who makes his intentions to harm others VERY clear.

There's also a great bonding scene between the three of them - a rare, quiet prolonged moment in which Kawada reveals his backstory to them as a way to express his true desire to see the establishment brought down instead of becoming part of it. It's a poignant moment, and comes right after Kawada has tenderly taken care of Noriko's gun shot injury after revealing his dad is a doctor.

I've said this often on the board, and I'll repeat it: Battle Royale (Special Edition) is a must-see.

Thanks!

Love these two in Black Butler [Japanese title: Kuro****suji] -

Manga/TV fans are critical of this adaptation for making the lead character a girl [Ciel in the manga] but I thought they did a great job of adding to the story this whole "she disguises herself as a boy to try and avenge her parents' murders".

Plus there is a believable chemistry between Hiro Mizushima and Ayame Goriki as Sebastian and Shiori. Their dynamic shifted seamlessly between butler/boss, father/daughter, and love interests.[/B] Amazingly, it never felt awkward. He was an amazing protector to her.
