I strongly suggest watching all of the films. If you are a fan of Brosnan as an actor, that's different. But you can't be a fan, and only have seen 4 of the 24 official films. I would also suggest watching two non-EON Productions films, NSNA and CR '57. The latter is an all out mess, but watch it once, so you can see for yourself.

NSNA is basically a remake of TB. There are a few small differences, but the overall plot is the same.
There is also an earlier adaption of CR from 1954. It was adapted as part of the Climax tv series in the US. Because of this, Bond is now an American working for the CIA called Jimmy Bond, while Felix is renamed Clarence Leiter and is British working for British intelligence. It's not that good, but it is still a stepping for Bond, from page to movie screen. Again, watch it it once for being the first screen adaption, and don't see it again. |

I was really hoping for a clean break. He has said that he "wants to go out on a high", so it sounds like they will be going into this one knowing it will be his last.

Maybe not financially. SF had the advantage of being released in the 50th anniversary year. And not just that, there were the London Olympics and the Diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, which I think also played a part. There was a lot of British pride in 2012, which I think helped boost the box office of the film. Content wise, all they need to do, is just make a Bond film, not an melodrama, a Bond film. Something they haven't fully down yet with Craig.
