Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis was the second biggest box-office success of all-time in France. I have only watched ten minutes of it... I don't really like French comedies.

That's not true.

Funny, I'm the exact opposite. A few years ago I only watched independant movies... Now I watch (almost) everything, I can even enjoy a movie that I find objectively bad. I regressed so much.

It kind of is. I can't think of a French actress who didn't show her boobs at one point, but I don't mind.

I got DVD box with 8 Chabrol movies, so I'll be watching that in the near future.

But seriously :

I haven't seen one French movie with zero naked people.
- Naissance Des Pieuvres
- L'Histoire d'Adèle H
- A Bout de Souffle
- Le Dernier Métro
- Alphaville, etc, etc.

And of course Le Petit Nicolas

You know, it's not a problem. It's just a thing that I noticed. It's the same with Swiss cinema but instead of naked people they just have sex. Seriously, I don't know one Swiss movie without a sex scene. It's nothing bad, but still it's there But I don't think that anyone of you is familiar with Swiss cinema

La Ceremonie is my favorite Chabrol, but it's not in the dvd box set. So far I've seen that + Les Biches, Le Boucher, Violette Noziere, Madame Bovary, L'Enfer and Merci Pour Le Chocolat.

'Les Biches' (1968), 'La Femme Infidele' (1969), 'Que La Bete Meure' (1969), 'Le Boucher' (1969), Juste Avant Le Nuit' (1971), 'Les Noches Rouges' (1973), 'Nada' (1974) and 'Madame Bovary' (1991). - Those are the dvds I got.

What other French directors do you like?

Jesus, so many French movies...

Has anyone of you seen Stupeur et tremblements? I think it's Belgian movie. I read the book and the movie stays true to the literature. Still, I think it's a weird movie and the lead actress was really bad.

Thanks. I'm watching Camelot, so I wanted an Eva Green icon.

Ok so the directors that I left in the quote I've seen movies of. One not on the list that I like a lot is Les Amants.

What about Bunuel? I've just seen Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie and Le journal d'une femme de chambre, but I loved them both.

Ok so about non French movies. Any Fellini or Bergman fans?

mukooh - I did see Buitiful! I saw it when it was still in theaters months ago and I thought that it was amazing in every way. Javier and the film deserved those nominations. I actually thought that he was better than Colin Firth.

Speaking of the Oscars, did anyone see Kynodontas (Dogtooth)? Holy God! That is a movie that messes with your mind!

~Adema~ : The movie seems interesting, but I boycott everything related to A. Nothomb. And I really don't like Sylvie Testud either, so there's really no reason for me to watch it.

zazie87 : Yes I like Buñuel ! I've only seen the movies he did in Spanish though. The only one in French I've seen is Belle de Jour, I thought it was OK but very overrated.
I LOVE Bergman. My top 3 is Persona/Wild Strawberries/The Seventh Seal.
I don't really know Fellini, I've only seen movies he wrote the screenplay for, but didn't directed (Rome, open city and Paisan).

Uhh...it's pretty disturbing. So if you find disturbing funny, this will be right up your alley It's not a black comedy, it's a drama.

I saw The Japanese Version Of The Ring and that thing was Scary way more scarier than the actual American Version.

Nope. Oh well, I'll watch it anyway.

Watched Departures, a Japanese movie that won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film two years ago. It's about a musician who loses his job and takes a job preparing the dead for funerals but conceals it from his wife. I liked it overall, but it's not a very subtle movie. I hated the overly melodramatic parts.

I like you And the movie may seem interesting but it isn't. Horrible stuff.

I started to watch Broderskab. It's a Danish movie and it's kinda disturbing. It's about neo-nazis, homophobia, and a secret relationship. The actors are really good and the storytelling is great.
