Bubble Boy (2001) #1: A journey of 2,755.8 miles begins with a single bounce.

"Bubble Boy" is a comedy about a young man who was born without an immune system and has lived his life within a plastic bubble in his bedroom. When he finds out that the woman he has loved since childhood is about to be married at Niagara Falls, he builds a portable bubble suit and ventures into the outside world to win her affections.

It stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Jimmy Livingston, the boy born with no immunities and therefore must live his life inside a protective bubble. His parents are played by Swoosie Kurtz and John Carroll Lynch. The object of his affection, Chloe, is played by Marley Shelton

It is a bit predictable and quite cartoonish, but it is still a pretty good movie, if you like comedies.

This was a really funny movie.....the only thing I thought was really bad..
was when ever they mentioned Poon-*bang*....that stupid banging noise...

I thought Swoozie Kurtz was hysterical...

Jake looked really good, at the end...with a real haircut...

Bubble boy! This movie was really good especially seeing Jake Gyllenhaal as the bubble boy The ending was really cute and I loved the song " King of Yesterday" by Jude that they played in the movie.

I never saw it - not sure I could ever get over the huge to-do about The Boy in the Plastic Bubble with John Travolta and Gwynneth...wait...what was her name? (she played Jake's mom on YA).

In any case - the subject has always struck me as very serious, so I couldn't go see this, even though I just love Jake Gyllenhaal.

But if you all liked it, perhaps I'll give it a chance...

Perhaps the best thing about this movie is the fact that it doesn't take itself seriously. It is a comedy from the very start.

Thanks, Claudia! Yeah, I can't believe I couldn't recall her name (it was right on the tip of my tongue).

But you're right, Mr. Impatient - I should totally give it a chance as so many of you think it's fun. Plus, you know - Jake!

I wanted to see this movie because of Jake, but I was surprised at how many other people I recognized. Both of his parents were familiar to me. I knew who Marley Shelton was before this movie, but had only seen one thing she had been in. I also recognized Verne Troyer (Mini Me in the Austin Powers movies), Ever Carradine, and Matthew McGrory.

And, I also noticed a major error in the movie, too. In one of the first scenes after he leaves his house, they show him fall over, and show that he hits the ground inside his bubble, and even rubs the spot that hit the ground, yet later in the movie (more than once, even) he hits something so hard that it causes the bubble to bounce into the air. In order for this to happen, his body had to do some bouncing, too, but they never mention it, and he never gets any bruises or a concussion...

I've seen this a few times and I thought it was enjoyable. Definitely something to watch when you just need a few laughs and some entertainment.
