I remember the year the film came out, it was played on TV and Spielburg made a special announcement that there would be an intermission and little to no commercial breaks as it was an important film reflective of our history.

^^ Me too! They are my favourite to watch in regards to 'historical' movies.

I also like historical crime movies, based on real events, like "The Black Dahlia", "Jack the Ripper", etc..

Two that come to mind for that one are: "The Black Dahlia" starring Scarlett Johansson, Josh Hartnett and Aaron Eckhart.

"From Hell" Starring Johnny Depp, Heather Graham.

One of the best biopic's out there. Another favourite is Phillip Seymour Hoffman as "Capote".
