Omg, thanks for starting a thread about this, I can not wait to see this movie! I love Kirsten Dunst and from the trailers she and Orlando Bloom seem to work really well together, I am uber amped!

Crystaline 07-19-2005 11:00 AM

Orlando Bloom! I must see it for him! And he has an American accent in the film!

Sheebs 07-19-2005 02:39 PM

Orlando?!!! :thud: I am there opening day. :D

He has an american accent in the film?! Why?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

smoothaise 07-19-2005 03:56 PM

It looks great!

After "Almost Famous", I'll follow Crowe anywhere.

goodbreakingbad 07-19-2005 08:18 PM

I know, why would they want him to loose the British accent?

Because he's playing an American.

Here's a summary from The Orlando Bloom Files
Quote:

After causing the Oregon shoe company he works for to lose hundreds of millions of dollars, Drew Baylor (Bloom) is fired for his mistake, and promptly also dumped by his girlfriend, Ellen. On the verge of suicide, Drew is oddly given a new purpose in life when he is brought back to his family's small Kentucky hometown of Elizabethtown following the death of his father, Mitch, as it falls to him to make sure that his dying wishes are fulfilled. On the way home, Drew meets a flight attendant, Claire Colburn (Dunst), with whom he falls in love, in a romance that helps his life get back on track...

Oh yea! I'm so excited about this. :D Orlando Bloom in a modern movie? He's not playing an elf, or a medieval warrior, or riding a horse, or shooting arrows?! OMG! I dont' know how i'll manage. ;)

moni8 07-19-2005 11:24 PM

^ I know what you mean. I actually thought this movie was like the other ones, but then I was suprised it was modern. Can't wait for it, though. :wiggle:

His first "non-period" film without his accent! It should be very interesting!

goodbreakingbad 07-20-2005 03:08 AM

Yeah, I know he's playing an American, but still, lol.

UnsilentMajorty 07-20-2005 06:42 AM

Technically, this isn't his first contemporary film. He was in "Blackhawk Down" which took place in 1993. Granted, he had a small (but pivotal) role, but it still qualifies and he didn't have his British accent ;)

I'm really looking forward to this because a lot of critics who have read the screenplay and seen the movie already said if you liked "Almost Famous" and "Jerry Maguire" then you'll like "Elizabethtown" because it is right in the middle of these two if you use both of those as extremes.

Some bits of trivia:

-Ashton Kutcher was origially supposed to play Drew Baylor.

-Jane Fonda was going to play Drew's mother, Hollie (now played by Susan Sarandon), but dropped out when filming was delayed when Crowe decided to replace Kutcher due to bad rehersals with Dunst

(This one of many rumors about Ashton Kutcher getting tons of A-List auditions, but directors realize he can't act and don't hire him. There is justice in the world after all...)

-Natalie Portman was originally considered for Claire Colburn.

-Jessica Biel (Drew's ex-girlfriend) originally auditioned for Claire Colburn.

goodbreakingbad 07-20-2005 06:46 AM

Jessica is still in it, right? I thought I saw her in the trailer for it..

Crystaline 07-20-2005 11:24 AM

I know technically, this isn't Orlando's first contemporary film. But I'm speaking in terms of a larger scale. You know, since he's become a well known actor.

And thank god Ashton Kutcher didn't get the role! He's absolutely annoying!

I know what you mean about the accent. It's so sexy! :sigh:
