Coming-of-age Films #1: Because we can still relate to them
Coming-of-age Movie Fans: atwoodsmariano Crystal Clear I just finished a good coming-of-age movie for the first time and noticed there wasn’t a thread for this genre so opening up one now the movie that I watched was Eighth Grade and I liked it personally middle school for me about 10 years ago now was a good time for me (I struggled more socially and academically in high school) but I was still able to relate to the main character (being socially awkward) definitely got some John Hughes vibes with how the pain of growing up was portrayed the fact that this was the same actress who provided the voice for Agnes in Despicable Me 1 and 2 makes me feel old and so did the discussion about social media use I’m glad that social media wasn’t so prevalent when I was still in middle school Last edited by Crystal Clear; 10-16-2023 at 12:46 PM |

Matilda (based on Roald Dahl's novel) is such a brilliant portrayal of overcoming trauma and isolation at a young age
