Best Actor Turned Director....

Who's your favorite actor turned Director and why?

I was watching Gone Baby Gone the other day and was feeling pretty proud of Ben Affleck. He's had some harsh criticism put on him due to what others perceive as bad acting (I personally think he's actually quite talented), and yet he turned a lot of it around by directing this movie beautifully.

Not sure how well I can judge him as he only has one film under his belt currently--but it definitely makes his future look really good.

So who would be your favorite....

I also really enjoyed "Gone Baby, Gone."

I think one of my favorites was when Kevin Costner did "Dances With Wolves." I thought it was a pretty amazing film

I sooo have to see Gone Baby Gone.

I think Stallone did a good job with the new Rambo.

Gone Baby Gone is brilliant. I liked it more than Mystic River, personally. With that and Hollywoodland, Affleck has almost redeemed himself from Gigli, Bennifer and Daredevil. Almost.

Sean Penn really did amazing work with Into the Wild.

Clint Eastwood is probably the most critically acclaimed actor turned director.

I absolutely love Confessions of a Dangerous Mind so George Clooney is one of my favorite actors turned director.

And is you consider what Sofia Coppola did before The Virgin Suicides as acting than her as well Although I absolutely loathe Marie Antoinette

I think Ron Howard and Clint Eastwood would have to be the ultimate when it comes to actors turning directors. They've gotten so much acclaim with their directing, you almost forget they started out in acting. I was so glad when Ron won the academy award and I think Clint should have for Mystic River, but I knew he didn't stand a chance against Peter Jackson, given it was the final LOTR and he hadn't won yet - not to say he wasn't deserving.

I'd have to agree. Those two probably would be at the top of almost anyones list.

I think Ron Howard especially is what most child actors in Hollywood aspire to be and very rarely ever make it as - to think he was Opie and Richie and is now one of the most amazing directors out there, just such a great journey for him.

I thought Ben Affleck did a fabulous job on Gone Baby Gone. As someone from the same area that he is, it was so amazing to see certain places on the big screen.

George Clooney's Good Night and Good Luck is another gem in my opinion.

I was going to say the same thing.

Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner are three really good actor-turned-directors, IMO.

Ben Affleck may have gotten a raw deal as an actor but we can't forget that he's already an Academy Award winner for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting.

I've got no idea about an actor getting to be a director!

But Orlando Bloom turned to be a producer!

Producer Bloom!

In my opinion, I think that Peter Berg has done a wonderful job directing movies as well as John Stockwell. Their movies have been enjoyable for me to watch.

Of course, Ron Howard too. Ben Affleck did an amazing job with Gone Baby Gone also.
