OK I haven't seen that one Slightly OT but I saw Mr Smith Goes to Washington last night and oh, my love for him just grew exponentially. Or something.

But Grace did make around 10, which is better than 3.
Exactly. If you want to make this a proper competition poll or something there should be a minimum number of movies the actor has done, or a more objective way of measuring "good" and "bad" - but as this is for fun it doesn't really matter, and it does seem to be going towards a Kelly/Dean win.

I don't know. It's not true - not entirely anyway - to say that movies are worse now, but at the same time you just have to wonder why actors back then tended to have better movies. If you look at All Time Great Movies lists there's usually more old movies. It really is a puzzle. But hey, at least you know some classics - most people don't even know any (apart from "here's looking at you, kid" from Casablanca or something). I don't know that much myself but I find myself leaning towards them these days.

Agreed! It's a shame because the books are so good. Seriously, forget the movie - just read the trilogy. They'll blow you away.

Just throwing a name out there .. Morgan Freeman?

I think I just love him because he's been in some of my favourite movies.

First name that popped in my mind when I saw this thread was Daniel Day-Lewis. Second was Edward Norton. I´ve never seen a movie of them that I don´t like (ok, I wasn´t big fan of Frida, but I don´t think the movie is bad). ...but I haven´t seen all of their movies and I haven´t read through all this thread so I can´t be sure

I love him and I think he´s an amazing actor. But he was in Evan Almighty and I cant help to think that´s a bad movie (I wasn´t big fan of Along Came a Spider either )

As for actresses...what about Natalie Portman? Or Meryl Streep? (and I wish I could say Nicole Kidman )

Daniel Day-Lewis I thougth of, but others in the thread have pointed out the (relative) disappoinment of The Ballad of Jack and Rose so I don't know. Edward Norton... I'm not so familiar with his stuff but he was in The Italian Job wasn't he? And his character was cringe-inducingly bad. I know he didn't want to do it and only did it out of contractual requirements but still, that's got to count him out.

Natalie Portman... love her but she was terrible in the Star Wars prequels, along with everyone else in it. The prequels were just horrible. Yeah Nicole Kidman, wish I could say her as well but she's had her fair share of flops. Oh well. Meryl Streep? I don't know - can't quite remember what she's done offhand.

Oh yeah, but still, I have found no matter how big a flop the movie might be he isn't actually bad in it

As far as Meryl Streep is concerned, she's knocked out by The She-Devil and Death Becomes Her. She got an Oscar nomination out of Music of the Heart but her performance aside, the critics panned it.

I loved Death Becomes Her---I thought it did rather well at the box office also though? I could be completely wrong on that though....

LOL. I tried doing this, but couldn't come up with a single actor or actress, unless they're new or have only done one movie & it was a hit. but established, great actors... couldn't find a single one. almost every single one of them had a flop or a movie I hated somewhere... usually in their early career. look at my love Leo DiCaprio, he's an amazing actor, but he had some craaaapy movies his early days.

now, there are some actors that to me that have never made a bad movie, because I haven't seen all of their movies. Ben Affleck. Matt Damon as well... except I HATED The Good Shepherd, even if it went over well. Mark Wahlberg... if I hadn't just seen The Happening, and haven't seen his early movies. oh, Joaquin Pheonix, but again I haven't seen his early movies.

actresses, Reese Witherspoon. but I haven't seen her early movies.

oh, Morgan Freeman! but AGAIN, haven't seen quite a few. I could probably name ten here, that I think have never made a bad movie because I haven't seen them all, and I'm not just going on what the critics said... critics can be completely opposite of my opinions.

so basically, I won't be able to come up with a single one... they've all either had a bad movie, or I haven't seen all of their movies.

^ Or it's a trick question and there is none! Especially since actors don't have total control over their projects. A role or movie that may seem very promising on paper/in the script can easily be ruined by bad direction or production. The better question may be the director or the producer who never made a bad movie.

As for the previous discussion of Leo and The Beach, Man in the Iron Mask was terrible too.

he wasn't nominated for East of Eden....but definitely James Dean, which was mentioned previously.

We aren't sure if we should count him or not though--due to his short career.

Aw, really? I loved TBoJaR I thought it was "different", but still very good and interesting movie.
I never saw The Italian Job, but overall, I read it´s nothing more than an action movie...And well, since I haven´t seen all movies of all the actors I think about, I guess I have to go with the general review.

I´m not familiar with the Star Wars saga so I have no idea how to rate those movies, lol.
What about Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchet or Emily Watson? I don´t want to give up yet

I agree Actually, I think he´s the only one who could have played God in Almighty movies, and I loved him

I agree...Or maybe we can try: the actor who never had a bad role

I guess James Dean is the only (unsure) consensus right now ...but it´s fun to think of names and then realize that no one is safe lol.

Kate was recently in All the King's Men which was a huge flop at the box office as well as with critics.

I heard she was fantastic in the movie though. Isn't she always though...I adore her.

Cate was in Bandits (which was a terrible movie imho) and also Missing which was critically panned.

Emily Watson---I've only seen some of her movies, and they were all great--so someone else is going to have to try and eliminate her...I can't.
