I'm so thrilled with EVERY category and have many that I would mind seeing win, HOWEVER....total BULL**** that Kathryn Bigelow wasn't nominated for director. She's the best female director of our time. She can still win a statue for Best Picture so I can't complain too loudly

Steven Spielberg's critically acclaimed "Lincoln" cemented its place as the Oscar front-runner when nominations were announced Thursday.
"Lincoln" earned 12 nominations, including for Daniel Day-Lewis as best actor. Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" picked up 11 nods, including for best director, though many were in technical categories. David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook," with eight nods, earned Bradley Cooper a surprise spot in the best actor category. He's up against another unexpected contender, Joaquin Phoenix, who played a troubled war veteran in "The Master." Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" fared well for an action film, earning five nods, including best picture. The biggest surprises came from the indie film "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and the Austrian drama "Amour," both nominated for best picture, director and leading actress. In the latter category, 9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis of "Beasts," a first-time actress, and 85-year-old Emmanuelle Riva of "Amour," are the youngest and oldest ever nominated. "Zero Dark Thirty," despite widespread acclaim and many awards, picked up only five nods, including best picture and best actress (Jessica Chastain). Director Kathryn Bigelow was not nominated. Other notable omissions included Ben Affleck, director of best-picture contender "Argo," and John Hawkes, widely praised as a paralyzed poet in "The Sessions," left out of the best actor race. __________________

The Academy never fails to disappoint me. The snub of Marion Cotillard in favor of Naomi Watts () is the worst snub I've seen in a very, very long time. The performance of Watts in The Impossible might be good, but it's nowhere near the brilliant performance of Cotillard in Rouille et d'Os (Rust and Bone). I now hope with all of my heart that Emmanuelle Riva or Jessica Chastain will go in there on the 24th and swoop that Best Actress award away.
No Best Director nomination to neither Quentin Tarantino, Kathryn Bigelow nor Ben Affleck, does not surprise me though, I can very vividly imagine that Steven Spielberg could be making a film about sausages and still get a dozen of Oscar nominations (maybe wins even). Another outrageous snub is the fact that The Intouchables didn't get any recognition in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The fact that they left it out in favor of No or War Witch is just ... I'm not even gonna go there. All the nominations for Les Misérables ... I'm not even gonna go there Amour (which is a really wonderful film, I might start out by saying) received a nomination in both the Best Picture category and the Best Foreign Language Film category. I would have supported the Best Picture nomination if it had been nominated in just one of the two categories, however since I'm fairly certain that it'll win BFLF, I think it's just a waste of space to nominate it for Best Picture unless it's gonna win (which again would be unfair because if it's gonna win Best Picture, why would you nominate it to BFLF which is supposed to put focus on smaller, foreign films that doesn't really have a chance of winning Best Picture). Glad to see Quvenzhané Wallis get a nod, her performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild was truly wonderful and amazing especially taking her young age in consideration. Christoph Waltz deserved his nod and Philip Seymour Hoffman did too. I am also beaming with pride because A Royal Affair was nominated for BFLF, it's truly and thoroughly deserved even though when Amour is nominated I doubt it'll win. So yeah, I prefer the BAFTA nominations to this mess __________________

DiCaprio not getting a Best Supporting nomination is outrageous. I am happy for Waltz but if I had to pick I would preferred DiCaprio over him. Same goes with Quentin not getting a director's nomination. Affleck not getting nominated either is a shame. However I hope Lincoln wins Best Picture.

Poor Leo. He wasn't going to win, though. I think Daniel Day Lewis has it in the bag, but we'll see.
Glad Joaquin Phoenix was nominated. |

I agree with the Ben thing. Such a shame because he's winning all the awards and he doesn't even get nominated. __________________

Be careful with your Oscar pools this year guys. The new online voting system wreaked havoc on the nominations. I usually win my pool, but I have no confidence this year.

I'm happy Ben won the GG but honestly, Argo isn't best picture material and the shining performances were the actors, not the direction. Especially when you compare it to someone like Spielberg with Lincoln, masterpiece!
