no surprises as to alot of the nominees.......but what's really amazing are some of the actors and actresses that didn't make the cut........including tilda swinton for 'we need to talk about kevin'

Hmmm I know movie didn't get super great reviews but sort of surprised Leonardo DiCaprio didn't make the cut at least. I am glad for Gary Oldman though.

I am glad Michelle and Rooney got nominated for best actress. I know it might be a long shot for her to win but I am glad Rooney slipped in there. Loved her take on Lisbeth Salander though I liked the original with Noomi Rapace playing the character.

I was surprised about Leo too, but to me all the nods were expected

It's a disgrace that Tilda Swinton wasn't nominated. She's so good an actress she deserves an Oscar for existing. Also I feel sorry for Leo, always the page boy - not even a bridesmaid. The Ides of March deserved a nod in the Best Picture category IMO. Also they could've made room for TGWTDT.

Apart from that I'm pretty satisfied with this years nominations. Rooney really deserved her nomination because she did an amazing job as Lisbeth Salander. I'm pretty sure that George Clooney (), Meryl Streep, Christopher Plummer and Octavia Spencer are going to win the acting categories, and I'm absoultely fine with that, they all did a good job.

I think The Artist will take most of the awards it's nominated for, and then Hugo and The Descendants will take what's left.

Seriously?

No nomination for DRIVE. The academy is BS. It was the best film of 2011.

I haven't seen We Need To Talk About Kevin yet but I'm very surprised Tilda Swinton was snubbed considering all the critical acclaim. Also, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close was poorly reviewed and still managed a Best Picture nom.

I was most surprised that Ryan Gosling was left out completely. Also The Tree of Life getting 3 nominations since it was left out of the other major awards.

Agreed. It should have at least gotten a nod for cinematography, I think it was the most visually stunning film I've seen since The King's Speech.

how about some insight into the makeup of the people that vote and decide who'll receive an academy award?........it's nothing too surprising.....but it's an extensive look into that governing body......

Can't wait for the oscars...It looks like a tight race for Best Picture and Best Director between Hugo and The Artist / as well as Best Visuals and Best Cinematography and Best Sound for Hugo, I just think its going to be a great night

I think acting catergories are all but locked up well the Supporting catergories anyway. I would be very surprised if Plummer or Spencer don't win their awards on Sunday. I really wish it was Pitt being front runner for Best Actor and Mara/Williams being front runner for Best Actress.

Finally watched all nine BP nominees!

I'm with you with Supporting actors being locks... but I feel like Dujardin and Davis will get leading... almost indefinitely.
