The 77th Academy Awards Nominations Thread (Jan. 25)

Oscar Nominations Close, Trailer Opens

Quote:
The trailer features clips from previous Oscar telecasts and red carpet moments, set to the sounds of the Black Eyed Peas' "Hey Mama." The promo will also play in Blockbuster stores nationwide.

Nominations will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 25. The 77th Academy Awards will be televised live from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, Feb. 27.
Nice, huh? Chris Rock hosting and the Black Eyed Peas promoting. They're really after some raitings come Oscar night.

I myself can't wait, as always. This is one those events I experience as a fan but it's as exciting as one being there. January 25th will be a day to pick my favorites and cry for those who didn't even get nominated.

Ya'll are so cute!

As usual I will not watch - they're so out of touch with what's really "quality" that I stopped paying attention years ago. Too much of a popularity contest, IMO.

But I'll enjoy watching all of you have fun with it - I really think the best things of any awards are the fans.

What can I say? It's a magical night!

Shr I do agree about the fan comment! Whenever I see a fan meeting their favorite actor, etc, it's just so amazingly cute. I love it when they get nervous, not in a cruel way, just like watching human nature in such a light.

I watched the Oscars almot every year since I was 15. I only missed it one year, but that wasn't my fault because I was in a ship and there was no tv.

Anyway, I hope this will be the Scorsese year. I love the man and his work. It's about time the Academy awards him.

My Oscar Nomination Predictions so far:

Best Movie

-The Aviator
-Million Dollar Baby
-Closer
-Sideways

And either Kinsey, or Hotel Rawanda to round out the five.

Best Director

-Martin Scorsese
-Alexander Payne
-Clint Eastwood
-Mike Nichols
-Terry George

Best Actor

-Leonardo Di Caprio
-Jamie Fox
-Clive Owen
-Liam Neeson
-Don Cheedle

Some dark horses: Possibly John Travolta for Love Song For Bobby Long; Clint Eastwood for Million Dollar Baby; Paul Giamotti for Sideways

Best Actress

-Natalie Portman
-Kate Blanchett
-Hilary Swank
-Virginia Madsen
-Laura Liney

Best Supporting Actress

-Kate Blanchett (if she doesn't get a nod for Lead Actress)
-Julia Roberts
-Scarlett Johansson - Long shot, but plausible
-Laura Liney
-Virginia Madsen (if she doesn't get it for Lead Actress)

Some long shots are Sandra Oh; Kate Beckingsale; Kate Winslet

Best Supporting Actor

-Morgan Freeman
-Paul Giamotti (if he doesn't get a nod for Lead Actor)
-Peter Sarrsgarrd
-Thomas Hayden Church - Long shot, but plausible
-Alec Baldwin - Long shot, but plausible

That's it so far.

The only "sure" ones are Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress as far as being 95% or more correct. We'll just have to wait until the official nominations are announced

You know, I have a friend who knows every single best picture, actor, and actress since the beginning, and can name them.

That always impressed me!

I'm praying for Morgan Freeman to be nominated and praying even harder for him to win! If I could have one wish for this year's Oscars that would be it, Morgan winning.

Hmm. Does the word "Rainman" come to mind?

The Official Oscar Nominations will be announced next Tuesday, Jan. 25th -- At probably, some unGodly hour of the morning as usual

I know it is one big popularity contest that is based on industry politics... But so what? It's not about curing Cancer, or saving the world. It's about having one night of glam, glitz and fun celebrating the artform that is mainstream Hollywood cinema (and yes, even that form of cinema has a right to be celebrated ).

I'm really excited about this year's awards.

Although I'm a bit scared about Chris Rock being the host!

What's the difference between The Academy Awards and The Golden Globes? Aren't both award shows similar to each other? I thought the Academy Awards usually aired in September? Or is that another award show? There's so many award shows, it's hard to keep them all straight.
