I'm so happy that The Artist won. I finally saw it on Saturday and I can't believe how much I loved it. A much deserved win.

At first I was resistant to the idea of a silent film of this kind, and wondered if it was really necessary to do. Does it have people of color in it? Just wondering. I wonder if such films are a way to say 'Well, we really don't have to have people of color because it's not the right period' - just saying.

I really am not sure what you're getting at here. I highly, HIGHLY doubt that this movie was made because they wouldn't have to cast people of color in it. I can't even fathom why you or whomever else in the world would even think that. And even though in the silent era black men and women were sometimes depicted by white men in black face, there WERE silent films that had black men and women in them. There were also Latinos and Asian-Americans in silent films as well. Of course they weren't always that best of roles, but because of this, minorities started up their own cinemas and made their own films. It's actually very inspiring when you think about it. And because black filmmakers were so successful, white filmmakers started to make films for the black audience as well. As far as "The Artist" goes, I honestly don't remember if there were any black men or women in it or other people of color. The film to me was so good, that I didn't notice the color of anyone's skin. It was just a great film.

Sorry. I'm a former film student/someone trying to make a career in film and a fan of the silent film.

And The Descendants, I saw that as well. I loved it. So far it's my second favorite movie of awards season...right behind "The Artist."

I saw The Descendants, Shame, Drive, The Help and Moneyball. My favourite is The Help and my least favourite is The Descendants, so I disagree with some winners
