2010 A Nightmare On Elm St: because Katie Cassidy & Jackie Earle Haley is EPIC WIN (Spoilers)

Hey everyone, I am new to this forum. I looked everywhere for a thread for the Nightmare On Elm St remake, so I decided to make one. I hope that is ok.
--
Platinum Dunes Produced, A Nightmare On Elm St -- 2010 remake Thread

Cast

Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger
Katie Cassidy as Kris
Rooney Mara as Nancy
Thomas Dekker as Jesse
Kyle Gallner as Quientin
Kellan Lutz as Dean

Directed by Samuel Bayer

With the San Diego Comic Con kicking off tomorrow, Warner Bros. Pictures has given us the thumbs up to share with you guys a small preview piece from our visit to the set of A Nightmare on Elm Street, which shot on locations in both Chicago and Indiana over the past few months. Beyond the break you'll get first word from your new Freddy Krueger, Jackie Earle Haley, as we inspect the new "look" of Freddy. Elm Street is slated for release on April 16, 2010. Watch for our massive set reports later this year.

A Nightmare on Elm Street LogoThe Midwest. It’s hot, it’s cold, it’s raining, it’s thundering, and goddamn are the mosquitoes out for blood - they aren’t the only ones. Sitting in a make-up truck outside of an old abandoned church in Gary, IN is Jackie Earle Haley, who within four hours time will be transformed into Freddy Krueger, the iconic child molester that has been tearing up the big screen with his patent razor-glove for 25 years now.

But when A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET hits theaters next April, you’ll be seeing a new Freddy. Robert Englund, who has donned the infamous red and green sweater and fedora for eight films now, is passing the torch onto Jackie Earle Haley, who told Bloody-Disgusting exclusively about how he really wanted to dive deep into the human side of ol’ Freddy.

“I still wanted to get in there though and find the human side of this guy - what makes him tick at a certain level. I wanted to make it real. It is like trying to get that perfect balance between the human side, the real side, but also don't lose sight of the mythology, what this guy is and whom he represents.” He continues talking about the discovery that Freddy IS the Boogeyman, and that it’s even more terrifying not knowing his motives, “A lot of that was finding out is that he's a Boogeyman, he's a guy that represents everyone’s deep inner fear. Like having something come at you that you just can't stop, having something come at you that you just don't understand. When you begin to understand, no matter how off the logic, no matter how much reason and logic you apply to it; you can't break through. It is coming no matter what, no matter how illogical it is.”

While Jackie Earle Haley focuses on bringing the heart and soul of Freddy Krueger to life, Andrew Clement of Creative Character Engineering is the man responsible for making him LOOK the part.

“ There are so many different ways that you can go at it when somebody is burned,” he explains in our exclusive interview. “I didn't know if we were going to do charred Freddy, or desiccated Freddy or healed burned Freddy, freshly burned Freddy, bloody Freddy... you know I kept sending these quick concepts and sketches over just to see where Sam's head was at, and Sam [Bayer] came to my company and we looked through books and chose some things that he liked.”

Ultimately, they decided to go with a post-burn victim Freddy, which they felt was more realistic. “This is more of a healed-burned Freddy, which I didn't understand in the beginning,” he continues, “but when some rewrites started coming down I could see why we were going this way, rather than coming at it from a sort of a logical standpoint and story standpoint.”

When I first saw the new Freddy, I was a bit rattled, but once I saw side-by-side comparisons it became obvious as to why. “ They have much different noses, this one is much more like a burn victim,” Clement tells us explaining that Robert Englund had more of a “witch nose” than Earle Haley.

“I had all of the photos up, and I have such respect for his face, I really wanted to echo some of the forms,” Clement continues talking about the new look. “The thing that we did depart from was the nose. I remember hearing interviews with Kevin Yager or one of the other people who have done the makeup. They were saying they wanted to make him a male witch, which is why they went with the big nose at the time. That kind of made sense, but I just didn't really think it - you never really see Robert Englund prior to being burnt. I knew how much we were going to see Jackie, so I couldn't image making Jackie's nose big all of a sudden. Why would we do that? In the beginning I didn't really know if we were going to have to do a Robert Englund likeness make-up on Jackie.”
Again, this is a reboot, a fresh start if you will. While Jackie Earle Haley might not look like Robert Englund, one thing you can count on is that Freddy is still Freddy right down to the dirty black boots.

Unfortunately, this is only a preview of what’s to come. So check back later this year for extensive reports from our visits to the various ELM STREET shooting locations, along with exclusive interviews with the cast and crew.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET arrives in theaters April 16, 2010.

Welcome and thanks for this thread!

I'm kind of excited for this! I'm sad Englund won't be Freddy in this one but Jackie Earle Haley is such a perfect fit too! I can't wait to see what they did here.

Also, I love Katie Cassidy and will be looking forward to seeing her on the big screen for the first time!

I agree, I already know alot about this film. This IMHO may be the best remake to come yet.

From having conversations with Platinum Dunes producer 'Brad Fuller' on Twitter, I get a feeling this movie will be badass.

This has a great cast with 2 young great actresses who are the lead in Katie Cassidy(Kris) and Rooney Mara(Nancy) to Thomas Dekker(Jesse) from the Sarah Conners Chronicles and of course the great Jackie Earle Haley.

How much I love Robert Englund's Freddy. I am glad we got a different actor and a damn good one at that. Robert's Freddy around Nightmare On Elm St part 4 became to comical with his one liners.

Platinum Dunes is trying to bring Freddy back to his roots from the Original Nightmare and that is being one scary bad mother*****er lol.

Oh and if you haven't seen watchmen with JEH. Go and rent it, download it or buy it because Jackie Earle Haley's performance as Rorschach is brilliant. At some moments, you could see him as Freddy.

oh and if you are interested, here are the NEW CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS for the Remake. The early draft that was leaked as been changed ALOT.

Quote:
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

KRIS (17) portrayed by Katie Cassidy. She attractive, hot, sexy and confident. Shes smart and curious. She is the town's sweetheart, always putting people before herself. The GOOD GIRL and VIRGIN. She is the 'Tina' of the reboot but unlike in the Original, Kris is in majority if not all of the first half of the film.

NANCY(17) portrayed by Rooney Mara. Attractive, interesting, and intriguing. Very smart. Not terribly social. Theres one in every class. She is depicted as an intelligent, resourceful young teenage girl. Think Sidney Prescott from SCREAM.

JESSE (18) portrayed by Thomas Dekker. Alpha male. Cool, attractive. The Badboy type. He used to date Kris, and hes still trying to get back together even though they've broken up about 4 times already.

QUENTIN (18) portrayed by Kyle Gallner. Mysterious, smart and cool. Think indie type guy. He is the captain of the swim-team.

DEAN (18) portrayed by Kellan Lutz. He's the school jock. Attractive. He's the kid that lives in the two-story home on the street that screams Rich Suburbia. Hes the guy that everyone seems to love.

FREDDY (40s) The fedora-wearing villain of teenager's nightmares. He's taunting and vindictive. He's the last person you want to see in your dreams.

The Nightmare Reboot is going to be a Trilogy. Jackie Earle Haley(Freddy) has already signed on for Three Nightmare films totaled.

I read the ROUGH draft of the script and it was pretty good.

- Katie Cassidy(Kris) is the lead character for majority of the first half of the film
Spoiler:
till she gets killed off the same way Tina does in the Original. Then it switches to Rooney Mara(Nancy).

- The Dreams are very creepy.

- Brad Fuller, Platinum Dunes producer said at comic con, "LESS WEED and SEX. BUT ALOT OF BLOOD".

- Freddy is a Child KILLER and MOLESTER.

Spoiler:
Spoiler on Kristen's Death(Katie Cassidy).
It is Brutal, Producer Brad Fuller confirmed this on his twitter. Well it basically did, "You just have to wait and see"

---

Quote:

" Kris's Death is half way through the movie. It is described being much brutal and bloodier then Tina's Death in the Original. After Freddy chases Kris throughout the dream-world, she wakes up after something horrifying happens. Thinking she is awake, Kris goes to bathroom, sink and then gets back into bed to snuggle up to her boyfriend, Jesse but the problem is, it isn't Jesse, now it is Freddy. He pounces on her and Kris can't do nothing about it as she tries to Fight but Freddy over-powers her. In reality, Jesse is awoken by a screaming Kris, he jumps out of the bed, pulls covers off and notices Kris is having a NIGHTMARE. He screams, tries to wake her up until 4 PARALLEL SLASHES appear across her chest, she levitates in mid-air, kicking Jesse into a corner, she is then thrown through a standing mirror in the corner of her room. Kris then gets dragged up the wall still screaming calling out Jesse's name. Jesse runs over and tries to pull her down but he gets pushed back by an invisible force(Freddy). As Kris is on the ceiling now, screaming in pain, she then begins to levitates off the ceiling now, blood dripping, arms out again, Kris is then slammed hard against the ceiling. Jesse still horrified calling out Kris's name. Then Kris sits up vertically, still on the ceiling, looking dead on at Jesse. Kris then wails out in pain, "Jesse, Help me". Jesse reaches out his hand and Kris does the same. We then hear a griddy voice come out of Kris's mouth, "ever hear of the expression, Love hurts". It is Freddy's voice, then ANOTHER FOUR INVISIBLE PARALLEL SLASHES appear across Kris's face. Then slams back against the ceiling, hearing a cracking noise as it is her neck breaking, she then comes crashing down on the bed, blood flying everywhere. Jesse now stands, shaken with blood covering his face, he grabs pants and makes a break out the bedroom door."

That's all I ask! Brad Fuller, if you do this for me, I'll love you forever. Drugs and sex are not what modern Slashers need. Friday the 13th misused a great opportunity to re-launch a perfectly good franchise by tacking on the sex and drugs and forgetting about the actual mystery and killer!

Can't wait for this!

actually! Friday The 13th is KNOWN for its abundance of Sex and Drugs. All the films have had that. Friday the 13th has a very simple formula; Sex, Drugs, Teenagers partying and getting butchered by Jason Voorhees.

Friday The 13th are fun slasher movies; Sex, Drugs and Rock/Roll.
Nightmare much darker and deeper story.

No argument there, but the new one left it at sex and drugs, it didn't bring on the horror and the Jason myth like it promised. The kids in the second half of the movie didn't even know who Jason was as he was killing them. It was all very random.

I hope this remake is all about the creepiness and the fact that Freddy ain't no joke!

samething is with the sequels! alot of the kids didn't know who Jason was. Take in Friday the 13th: Jason goes to hell. There is a couple having sex in the tent. The girl, while on top of the guy, gets a pole jammed right through her.

The Friday The 13th reboot just honored the first FOUR FRIDAY FILMS, the better ones, the real F13 movies, when Jason was a human killer machine and not a slow walking Zombie like he was in Part 6-10. They played homages to the first four, added their own story and stuff to reinvent F13. The Sequel should do justice, where they can go whereever they want.

the friday the 13th reboot is 100X better then JasonX, Jason Goes To Hell and Jason Takes Manhatten.
