For me Bamon was always going to be developed in some way. It was inevitable. Their fans have been thrown this bone, and I really am fine with it. I have never seen them as any threat to DE so why not build on Ian and Kat's chemistry? It's definitely there and regardless of what happens, it's never going to come close to the connection between Damon and Elena, so I really am not going to freak out about it. Bring it on! I actually have grown to like Bonnie's character a lot more, and Caroline took on her judgemental role in the last couple of seasons. Damon building a friendship and begrudging respect with her sounds quite pleasant. Elena needs a friend who is team Damon and understands why Elena loves him so much.

I adore what Julie said about DE, and I am thrilled with the direction the show is taking in regards to Elena's grief. Since we have seen emotionless Elena, I was concerned Elena would be trying to move on and in denial constantly. I love angst and as depressing as it is I want to see Elena fall apart without Damon. I want to see pain and devastation because let's be honest here, it's the only scenario that would make sense. She loves him so much and would be lost without him, guaranteed. Yeah it's in her nature to try and roll with the punches and get on with things but I really want to see that struggle, and pining and longing is just so delicious... It's going back to the root of their relationship and the dynamic is so romantic and reminiscent of their journey. I love seeing them happy and in love, but fighting to find their way back to one another is so much more interesting and powerful to me. It makes the pay off that much sweeter. They've always been all about the journey and this separation, and desire to be with one another is breathing some new life into their dynamic and I'm really excited

I think a Bonnie/Damon friendship could be good. Caroline is ... many words I can't write here, so Elena could use a girl friend to be able to talk to about the man she loves. It should be a different core group dynamic when Damon and Bonnie return.
