I honestly think the writers made an error by having Katherine 'love' Stefan more than Damon. Stefan clearly moved on in the 20s, and Damon was still pining for Katherine. Damon wasn't moved on there. After learning that Katherine 'chose' Stefan's life over his, he was clearly hurt there.

Damon's character has always been so much more intriguing to me. Stefan most of the time felt like a one-note-guy
