When I thought she was really Sarah I thought they'd keep her around for a while to try to add a new dynamic to Stefan/Damon's relationship. Plus they had her bonding w/Matt.

I guess it was so we could find out that Stefan has been watching out for the real Sarah all along? Of course they could've just told us that instead of spending so much time on Monique.
