Boone Carlyle
Boone is born in October, 1981, the son of wealthy Sabrina Carlyle, the head of a wedding company. When Boone was ten years old, Sabrina marries Adam Rutherford, who has an eight year old daughter named Shannon. His parents frequently left him with a nanny when he was young, and Boone, angry at being left alone, called her to his room repeatedly without cause. During one of these calls, when Boone was six, the nanny fell and broke her neck.

At some point in his teens, Boone worked as a lifeguard. According to Shannon, he didn't believe in guns and marched in protests as a "liberal", which was denied by him…

By the time he had turned 20, Boone was living in New York. After flying back to Los Angeles for Adam Rutherford's funeral, Boone comforted Shannon, and gave his underage stepsister some alcohol to mollify her grief. He told Shannon she could live with him in New York if it would help get her career as a dance instructor started.

Boone harbors a fondness for his stepsister, which develops into a romantic attraction. When Boone learns of Shannon’s financial difficulties after her father’s death he offers to give her money, but she does not accept. Boone "rescues" Shannon several times from abusive relationships by paying the boyfriends to leave her. One such rescue attempt leads Boone to Sydney, Australia in September 2004, where he learns the relationships are actually scams concocted by Shannon to get his money and attention. Boone is deeply hurt by the deception. Boone and Shannon have sex after her Australian boyfriend runs away with her money. The next day, they board Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 to return to the United States.

CHARACTERISTICS
USA Today described Boone as "a callow young man who had been toughened by island challenges." Variety called him "hot-headed",while Entertainment Weekly wrote he was "even-tempered".Boone's quick decisions with good intentions are often rash. On his sixth day on the island, Joanna Miller drowns. As soon as he finds out she is drowning, he immediately tries to save her, although he does not succeed and almost becomes a casualty himself. While trying to take on a leadership role, Boone steals the camp's water; however, his plan backfires and the survivors turn on him. When Boone suspects Sawyer has Shannon's medicine, he attempts to steal it.Aside from Shannon, he was closest to John Locke, who acted as a father figure and mentor to the younger, inexperienced Boone and who, unlike others including Shannon, tried to help him do his part on the island. Boone similarly is one of the few to trust Locke's guidance and made Locke feel like the hero he had always wanted to be. Boone reflects aspects of Locke's personality, such as his desire to have a unique purpose and his willingness to believe in the unlikely.

Boone always offers to help his fellow survivors, joining the party trying to send a radio distress call on the second day, helping Sayid triangulate Danielle Rousseau's distress signal on the eighth day, searching for the abducted Claire Littleton on the sixteenth day and standing guard for the return of Ethan Rom on the twenty-eighth day. IGN wrote "he appeared to be both integral and counterproductive to their survival" and "Boone appeared to be a pure and honest guy who tried to help people on the island and attempted to carry his own weight among the seemingly-unscathed survivors of Oceanic Flight 815."

TRIVIA
  • Boone has appeared in 10 episodes after his death, the most of any deceased main character to date: "The Greater Good" as a corpse, "Exodus, Part 1", "Exodus, Part 2", "Abandoned" and "The Other 48 Days" in flashback, "Further Instructions" in a hallucination, "Exposé" in a flashback and "LA X, Part 1" and both parts of "The End" in flash sideways.
  • Boone was the ninth character to ever have a flashback.
  • Boone was the first former main character to appear in Season 6.
  • Boone's total episode count so far is 25 (one uncredited--in "The Other 48 Days" his voice was heard over Bernard's radio); he died in his 18th episode.
  • Boone was the first of Lost's main characters to die. He died with his eyes open.
  • Boone's name is the first name of any character to be said on the show. Soon after the crash, Shannon shouted Boone's name on the beach, prior to his introduction to the viewer. ("Pilot, Part 1")
  • Boone along with Ana Lucia died in the twentieth episode of their respective seasons.
  • Boone was originally going to be called Boone Anthony Markham V (Called Five by the group). Being called "Five" would be almost a direct reference to "Fiver" a character in the book Boone took on the trip, "Watership Down."
  • On the Season 1 DVD special features, it is revealed that they ran a search and replace on the "Pilot, Part 1" script, it accidentally changed this story to have Jack say: "1, 2, 3, 4, Boone".
  • Boone has never met Ben, Ana Lucia, Eko, Daniel, Charlotte, Miles, Richard, Eloise, Pierre, Lapidus and Ilana, however, he has met all of the middle section survivors as well as Bernard.
  • Boone met Desmond, Penny, Libby, Christian and Juliet in the flash-sideways timeline. It is possible he met Ben outside of the church. He also met Bernard in the flash-sideways timeline.
  • The Chinese figure on Boone's singlet means the number 84, which is a reference to Yin & Yang - a central symbol in Taoism.
84 is the first two of the Numbers in reverse order.
    84 is the sum of 42, 23, 15, and 4.
  • Despite his early death, Boone serves as a plot device or character motivation in almost every season: In season 1, his death causes Locke to continue his quest to enter the Hatch -- which, as revealed in season 2, keeps Desmond from committing suicide -- referred to in both seasons as "the sacrifice the Island demanded." In season 3, a spirit vision of Boone gives Locke the impetus to find the gravely injured Mr. Eko. In season 5, Locke witnesses the night of Boone's death and implicates it as pivotal in becoming the person he is now.
  • Boone may be based off of Sam, a boy in the Lord of the Flies, and who has a twin named Eric. He may also be based on Simon, whose death was also rationalized as a sacrifice to the Island.
  • The genesis of Boone's death was him going along with Locke and discovering the hatch in "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues". This only happened due to a replacement: originally, two new guest characters went with Locke and Boone was not necessarily slated to die. But rewrites produced his death later in the season.
  • Boone is one of 22 main characters to have their names appear in a soundtrack title.

what are your thoughts on Boone now Asena??

Schumiac 01-14-2012 09:29 PM

I named him the favorite elder son of the island where Jack is the Papa-Bear! :lmao:

I think Boone DOES have leadership qualities but is too young. He can take initiative on his own and even though he respects Jack and seems to see him as their leader, is not afraid to go up against him. And really, in many ways, it is Boone who decided Jack should be the leader, by taking every issue to him and forcing him to take action -like with that Rose woman. Boone could himself go talk to her after all, but seemed to think Jack may know what to say better -maybe because he is a doctor?- and wanted him to go deal with it. Jack DOES do his best to keep people alive to get them back to health but I think it is Boone who was more "aware" of what their little society needs as well as the "emotional" needs and he pushed Jack to take care of those too.

So, yes, I love Boone. He is adorable. He seems to be lacking in the lifeguard qualities and probably would be better if he realized he does but he IS keeping guard over all (not just Shannon) and trying to help them all, if not by doing something himself, by getting someone who can to help them. And I do like that he is one of the few take-charge/responsibility people in the island and also one of the -fewer- "think for the greater good of all" ones.

Ashley486 01-15-2012 07:22 AM

oh god.. elder son and papa bear? :lmao: :lmao:
