| Here are my thoughts... Still one of the better pilots to have aired. Not too many "action" type pilots that really grab you, but this one did. Which is what a TV pilot should do. JJ deserves 100% credit for bringing it all together and setting the stage for a superb season. He was sorely missed in the later years. Sinead O'Connor's awesome No Man's Woman could have easily been Syd's theme song. The song was perfect for the episode and the scene. Sadly prophetic in some of it's lyrics, as we will come to see later, yet still one of the best songs ever on Alias. Easily my favorite. Love seeing Syd as a naive, thought she had a handle on most things kind of woman. Little did we know and what pleasure it would be to see Jennifer and the writers create a compassionate yet flawed woman. The thread title is really perfect. Kudos to the red wig (and to using it only once) and the woman with two guns. Very fews scenes in the history of Alias say so much as the opening sequence, the torture scene, the escape, then her walk to the CIA. What a rush that made you say, What the hell?! Another interesting thing was the whole switching back between the present and the past, months passing as Syd grieved for Danny and the entire time flow of the episode. It is almost like you can write it in chronological order and then rip portions of the story up and place it helter-skelter and still see it work. Yay for giving us some great one liners, (Who do you work for pretty little girl, I work for the CIA, etc.) and to the Truth Be Told costume designer for the simple and ordinary (sans the punk outfit at the airport) outfits. I will forever be grateful to that person for choosing to step aside for the goddess, Laura G. Thank you! Thank you! Finally, the things that I hold most dear from this ep. Will and Francie's friendship with Syd: Neither of them were fully developed characters, particularly Francie, there is no doubt how very much both of them cared for Syd and in future episodes it would become much clearer, but for Syd's character to work, she had to be failing somewhere and that was her life outside SD-6. They both stepped up and as the saying goes you are as good as the company you keep. The relationship between Syd and Dixon. Ron Rifkin and his smart, intelligent, grizzle bearded, and soon to be creepy portrayal of Arvin Sloane. Seeing Jack Bristow put the exclamation point on father-in-law. The cellphone ringtone. Quote:
