Catch and Release #1

New movie! Let's keep this board alive, shall we? Post all information regarding Jen's new movie Catch and Release.

Catch and Release summary - Aint It Cool News
Catch and Release IMDB page

Cast

Let's start by a question. Who would you like to play Grady (Gray's fiance) and Fritz (one of Grady's friends)?

Also, title suggestions are welcome.

I don't do stuff like that. Cast people. I'm prefer deciding if I think they were a good match after I've seen them or become excited if someone I like is cast.

People are just gonna suggest their favorite actors (that they want to work with Jen) anyway. Regardless of said actor seeming like a good Fritz and Grady or not. But carry on, folks. So, who do you want to play them?

There isn't really that much to discuss about this movie yet. But it'll come and I can't wait. Hee.

Lol. I'm not yet sure either. So, they're going to film it again in Vancouver right?

Yes, according to that article from Ain't it Cool principal shooting will be in Vancouver. So back to Canada we go, heh. Something I'm sure JG is happy with. Less papz and according to that article she did about Vancouver she seems to really know and love the place a lot.

Someone at another board posted that as of now, the movie is in pre-production and principal shooting is scheduled to start May 1 in Vancouver.

Yeah. At IMDB too, it's pre-production. So, Jen is shooting Alias until April then she'll do this one right? I hope she takes a break though before shooting this one. Did she took a break before starting Elektra? I forgot. Can't wait for the first behind-the-scenes pics.

Where are you Jen fans? Come on. Aren't you excited with this movie?

It's been pre-production a while there now. Obviously. But initial reports said principal shooting was gonna be in March. Apparently that has changed. Also, obvious, since the movie isn't even cast yet, heh.

No, she didn't take time off between Alias and Elektra. A few days, or something. In fact, the year she did Daredevil, she went straight from the Alias set to the DD set the next day and she barely had a break before doing 13 Going on 30 either. I remember there was a little bit of time to go home and to Hawaii before 13..., though. That was also right after her separation from Scott, so I'm sure a few weeks off were in order. Point is, she doesn't have a lot of breaks. Something it looks like she might need these days. Everyone needs a breather every now and then.

More casting news. Timothy Olyphant. Oh, yes, there is a God. Or whatever. I've always been such a fan of his. I don't even know why, but I find him to incredibly sexy. Looks like he's playing the love interest. Aw, Jen's future boyfriend.

More from about.com

"Alias" star Jennifer Garner is set to play a leading role in the romantic comedy, "Catch and Release." "Catch and Release" will be directed by Susannah Grant, who also wrote the script, and will produced by Jenno Topping.
Variety describes "Catch and Release" as focusing on a woman (Jennifer Garner) who has to come to terms with her husband's death and deal with the discovery of secrets he was keeping from her before he died.

I don't know how that could be construed as a 'comedy'(sounds depressing to me, dead husbands, secrets) but Jen plays comedy so well that I'm sure it'll be awesome.

Yeah. I'm thinking of that too. Maybe, it's a dark comedy. Or not. It's somewhat dark and according to the AIC article:

The script succeeds when it gets down to the barest of human emotions, especially potent early in the sexual relationship between Fritz and Gray (one which at first seems to stem from anger). Overall, the relationships portrayed are dark, honest and compelling.

Another Timothy tidbit with something about Elektra.

Quote:
Olyphant scores himself a good Catch
Timothy Olyphant, whose star has risen slightly since the success of HBO's "Deadwood", has snagged the Mark Ruffalo role, ah, love interest role, in Jennifer Garner's next romantic comedy "Catch and Release".

According to Variety, Olyphant - whose other credits include "Scream 2" and "Go" - will play a filmmaker whose buddy dies on the way to his wedding. Our filmmaker friends meets the fiancee and love blossoms.

Meanwhile, chatting to a FOX rep today, discovered that Jennifer Garner's as done-as-charcoaled steak with her "Elektra" duties. They were talking sequel, they were talking "Daredevil" reunion movie, but apparently the lousy returns for the spin-off have changed all that. The one in red has been laid to rest.

I think it's a dramedy. Dramatic plot, but done in a somewhat funny and charming way. I'm thinking kinda like Erin Brockovich (also written by Grant).

From dailycamera.com

Minor spoilers, with a few quotes from a scene.

Quote:
Boulder will play a part in a major motion picture written and directed by the woman who wrote the screenplay for "Erin Brockovich," producers said this week.

Details remain sketchy, but Columbia Pictures has requested permission from the Daily Camera, 1048 Pearl St., to recreate its newsroom and portray a newspaper employee in a movie tentatively titled "Catch and Release."

Columbia spokeswoman Ellen Woeckener said the film stars Jennifer Garner, known for her work in the TV drama "Alias." It is written and directed by Susannah Grant and produced by Jenno Topping, who produced "Guess Who" and "Charlie's Angels."

Camera Publisher Greg Anderson gave approval for the newspaper to be used in the movie.

The scene involving the paper takes place in the newsroom, where Garner's character is being interviewed for a job by an employee described in the script as "male, 40s, and crunchy." The interviewer asks Garner's character about her thoughts on the "prairie dog issue."

She says she knows the "right answer" is that we need to "learn to coexist peacefully with other residents on the planet."

But, leaning in close, she asks: "But really, deep down, when you're speeding home down Route 36, and you see their furry little heads popping up all over the place, like some biblical locust swarm, isn't there a part of you that's dying to yank your wheel to the right and see how many of those little (expletive) you can take out before they see you coming?"

Deborah Simmrin, publicist for the movie, said little more is confirmed about the movie's connection to Boulder.

She said filming for "Catch and Release" will take place in Vancouver, Canada, and won't begin until May. The movie will likely come out in 2006.

According to the March 24 letter requesting the Camera's permission, the movie is about a group of friends in their late 20s coping with the unexpected death of a friend.

Garner plays the dead man's fiancee, who struggles to understand his secret life after discovering that he had a 3-year-old son. When she finds herself attracted to his "obnoxious" best friend, "tragedy meets comedy as their volatile affair intensifies," the letter said.
I'm definitely interested. Hee at that scene. Excellent. Oh yeah, I think I will enjoy this movie.

Yay thanks for that. This board is dying. Only 2 posts earlier. Le sigh.

Got the google alert but didn't subscribe. I had a feeling that you posted the article already. Very interesting indeed. And I wonder if they're going to keep this scene: Gray is drowning her sorrows in an-upstairs bath-tub. Fritz, one of Grady’s friends, barges in with one of the cocktail girls and proceeds to bang her on the bathroom sink.
