I think that would be obvious. He's got a certain likable charm, but he comes of like a big, clumsy oaf.

"Clumsy" doesn't stand in isolation in my sentence. You can't take the "clumsy" by itself, separate from the "oaf" and probably the "big" or else it loses its intended meaning.
