Putting something out there just say, not to debate, because I deleted a version of it from a post of mine elsewhere on the board. I feel strongly about sexism and I'm opposed to sexism against either gender. I've felt this way for a long time. When it comes to sexism in old works of art, like old stories or old literature or old comics, I accept the work but not the sexism within it. For example, I'm a fan of Robert E Howard, the creator of Conan the Barbarian. His stories have a lot of sexism and racism in them, being written long ago when society was less evolved. I don't reject his stories because of the bigotry in them. His stories have too much value for that. But I do take note of the bigotry within them and attempt to learn from it. I think it's worth pointing out sexism wherever you find it. This is relevant for old comics. There have been many great examples of empowering, quality female characters in comics as far back as the '80s, but the farther back you go you do run into stuff that is hard to swallow in the modern era. When reading old literature, old comics, looking at old art, you have to get used to such things and not throw out the baby with the bathwater. A work of art or literature can be flawed by the prejudices of its time and still have much value. Who knows how the supposedly enlightened works of the present day will look to people of the future? Again not wanting a debate here, just expessing an opinon. __________________

Hi, Dave! Hi, sum1!
Yeah, we did discuss this on the LoT board. I was just looking for more opinions on the subject. __________________

I survived.
Alex, with regard to the Spider Man cover you posted elsewhere, it's a good cover in many ways, but I just don't like covers putting women on the ground near male heroes' feet. It's a particular style of cover or poster that was once very common. There were tons of such covers for The Savage Sword of Conan, Marvel's magazine-imprint mature-audience Conan comic. There were also tons of '70s movie posters like that. I find that style objectifying and demeaning and it makes me uncomfortable. None of this is to say you can't enjoy your nostalgia for the old cover. But I see it a different way. For those who are interested, here's the cover: https://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&t...tJX1KH4j6EmXM: Notice how the woman's arse is bunched up for maximum effect. I know some people might feel this sort of thing is not worth bothering about, but it bothers me, so I think it's worth mentioning. Again, I'm not looking for a debate, just putting out my view. __________________

some conic covers reflect the time period they [the comic stores] were written....in subtle ways though and sometimes in non-subtle ways
I follow the history of womans' movement on occupations and sports. The pinnacle for me is when a Woman becomes President and a woman plays in the NBA, NFL and MLB. Of those...we have the WNBA which does OK for itself. |

Hi, Dave! Hi, sum1. I hope you're feeling okay and got enough sleep.
Yes, I understand. I believe we've had similar conversations about Jim Lee's artwork in the 90's and 2000's. __________________
