Hi, Rita! Hi, sum1!

If I'm on and off tonight it's because I'm watching my team play in the Super Bowl. And I'm nervous as hell.

Adenovirus shares some similarities with Influenza, Rita, but it's a lot worse.

Well, the NFL season is only 16 games long, Rita. It's actually 17 weeks long, but each team gets a week off, called a "bye week" to rest. I think at least four teams have off at the same time on different weeks throughout the season on a rotating basis, which is why the season lasts 17 weeks even though there are only 16 games. The reason for the number of games is that there's 32 teams. Two Conferences - AFC(American Football Conference) and NFC(National Football Conference) with 16 teams each. Each conference has four divisions - North, South, East, and West - and each division has four teams. The regular season is a Round-Robin format, with everyone in each division playing their rivals within their division, along with other teams in their conference, and teams from the opposing conference. Each division has a champion, determined by season record of wins vs. losses - wins and losses within their own division, within the conference, and overall seasonal record.

There are four division champions in each of the conferences, North, South, East, and West. Each of the champions are seeded based on their overall record - #1 seed, #2 seed, #3 seed, and #4 seed. In addition, each conference has two wildcard teams, which are teams that did not win their divisions, but have the #6 and #7 best overall records in each conference. Those six teams from each conference, twelve in all, make it to the playoffs.

Playoff games are separated by conference, the AFC playoffs and the NFC playoffs. The top two seeds from each conference, AFC and NFC, get a bye week off for the first week of the playoffs. This is called the Wild Card playoffs, where the two Wild Card teams play the lowest ranked champions from within their conference, the #3 and #4 teams. The rules are that the lowest seeded team plays the highest seeded team, and then the second lowest seeded team plays the second highest seeded team. So the Wild Card team that is the #6 seed will play the Divisional champion who is the #3 seed, and the #5 seed Wild Card team will play the #4 seed champion. Playoff games are single elimination, so the winner advances and the loser goes home.

The winners of the Wild Card playoffs will face the top two seeds in the Divisional playoffs. And again, the lowest seeded remaining team will play the highest seeded team, and so on. That means that the #1 seed champion will play the lowest seeded team that made it past the Wild Card round, and the #2 seed team will play the second lowest seeded team that made it past the Wild Card round. Then the winners of the Divisional games will meet in the Championship games, the AFC Championship and the NFC Championship. And the winners of those games will face each other in the Super Bowl, where the AFC champion plays the NFC champion. The winner gets the Lombardi trophy and the Super Bowl championship title for that year.

It's plain English, sum1. I spelled it out as simply as possible. You do know what round robin format is, right? It's the same thing they have in the Olympics, where everyone plays each other to determine record, and then the finals are single elimination.

I hope you had a good day, sum1.

I had an ok day. Not a bad one, anyway, which is fairly rare for me.

Do you have a job that keeps you from getting enough sleep? I'd rather you sleep and stay healthy, you know?

And my palms are sweating as I'm typing because my team is up 15-6.

I'd rather I sleep too, but it's often very hard for me to actually get to sleep.

You have problems just getting to sleep? Is it insomnia?

Well, yeah. But I wasn't sure if it was because you were overworked and exhausted, or something else that's keeping you up.

No. I think the change in my work hours made it easier to sleep. Your sleep receptors have to be on for you to sleep. If your wake receptors are on you can't sleep. I guess it's about finding something that helps you relax and turns off the wake receptors. Have you seen a doctor about help with sleeping?
