Thanks for all that, dragonfire! I'm hoping Comcast gives up.

And we also really need an OP.

Well, this is very interesting.

Comcast’s 50-person deal team began working full-throttle on a possible larger move for the Fox assets Disney was buying. At one point, Comcast signaled to Disney it would be willing to split the spoils, where Comcast would take international assets including Star India and Sky, and Disney would take domestic assets, people familiar with the matter said. Disney didn’t engage and has since ruled out that possibility.
Comcast also entertained discussions with Amazon.com Inc. to see whether carving up the Fox assets could offer a smoother regulatory path, these people said.

dragonfire's news, obviously. The Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth thing is pretty much what I'd expect you to say.

Twenty-First Century Fox says the sale of its movie and TV studios to Comcast faces more regulatory risk than one to original bidder Disney.

The Fox board expects a deal with Disney, which increased its offer last week to about $71 billion, would be "likely to receive required regulatory approvals and ultimately be consummated," while a transaction with Comcast carried "higher regulatory risk" and could be delayed or denied, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
Quote:
In the filing, Fox's board says it remains concerned about the DOJ's "apparent sensitivity to the potential anticompetitive effects" of a larger vertical integration involving Comcast. In the past, regulators were concerned about horizontal integrations in which a company gaining market share by acquiring a rival.

Now, regulators have also become concerned about distributors of content gaining additional clout as content owners and possibly withholding content from rival distributors. Comcast, the nation's largest cable TV provider, already owns NBC Universal, which it fully acquired five years ago.

Among the board's other concerns: Comcast's potential controlling interest in Hulu; currently, Comcast, Disney and Fox hold 30 percent stakes and AT&T's WarnerMedia holds 10 percent.

Fox's board suggested shareholders approve the Disney sale when both companies' shareholders vote on July 10, the filing says, noting that its improved offer represents a 36% premium to its original $52.4 billion offer for the Fox assets made in December . Disney's latest offer, a cash and stock deal, is also a 9 percent premium to Comcast's, the board said in the filing.

Now that Disney&Fox got approval from the DOJ. I do believe the Fox shareholders will vote&approve the Disney&Fox deal.

So do I. I'm sick of worrying about this merger.
