McKellan never fitted Magneto anyway. Neither he nor Fassbender are Jewish like Magneto is, but at least Fassbender was born in Germany like Magneto was. A British Magneto just doesn't work. McKellan is one those actors who can only really play their own nationality, not that he makes any effort to play any other nationality in the X-Men movies. Plus McKellan gets the feel of Magneto all wrong. Magneto's supposed to be this majestic, charismatic, imposing figure. Fassbender at least makes a stab at that. I don't think McKellan really does, or at least not well enough.

Well, I just felt that both Steward and McKellan were too old for their roles. They seemed more like the stereotypical elderly mentor and villains than the characters from the comics. Fassbender and McAvoy just bring something to the roles that wasn't there before.
