I like Sophie, she does resemble young jean to what I imagine.
|
Yeah, Sophie's facial features are closer to Jean. Famke never resembled Jean to me. I thought that Famke was another case of Hollywood shoehorning an actor into a role instead of casting one that resembled the character.
|
I think the days of actors in films & TV shows based on comics having to resemble the characters they portray are about over, but I do tend to like when actors that have some resemblance to the characters they are acting as.

In those yes, but in other cases they really stick out when the looks are so different as the TV show ''Preacher'' having ''Tulip'' played by an Ethiopian-Irish actress & in the film Constantine'' though I'm a fan of Keanu Reeves it would've been better I think if an actual Englishman would've portrayed ''John Constantine'' & perhaps dyed his hair blonde if possible, though that was only 1 of the differences in that film compared to the comics. Also Halle Berry as ''Catwoman'' & Tom Hardy as ''Bane'' in those Batman films directed by Christopher Nolan didn't really resemble their characters they were portraying much.
I didn't think about casting a taller Cylops. Which film did his height stick out to you? |

Halle Berry wasn't playing Selena Kyle (the main Catwoman) anyway and she wasn't Catwoman in the Nolan films -that was Ann Hathaway. Halle Berry played a different Catwoman character in a standalone Catwoman film. The Catwoman that didn't fit was Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns in 1992 -she was blonde. Tom Hardy was genius as Bane, so that's forgivable. Having not seen Preacher or read the Preacher comics, I have no opinion on the topic of Preacher casting, other than to note that Dominic Cooper is not an actor who has impressed me, but Ruth Negga has. And I agree with sum1. Cyclops is supposed to be 6'3" in the comics, and he's an imposing leader with a commanding presence. The movies keep making him into some adolescent beta male, which is ridiculous. How is he supposed to lead the team when they keep casting him the way they do? Oh, and I also agree with sum1 about Michelle Pfeiffer as Selina Kyle in Batman Returns. :high_five: Catwoman is not a blonde, and she's not someone's secretary. She's supposed to be a raven-haired cat burglar and femme fatale from a noir movie. If I see a blonde woman running around Gotham City in black spandex, I think Black Canary. :P |
I agee Anne Hathaway was damn good as Catwoman. But I feel The Dark Knight Rises was the best of Nolan's Batman trilogy and Tom Hardy was incredible as Bane.
|
Okay, well there's another thing we won't agree on, sum1. But we at least agree that Anne was awesome as Catwoman.
And as I was saying, Anne also fit the character due to her having dark hair. Not as dark as I'd like, but whatever. It's ironic that for most of her career, Anne Hathaway had black hair, which was perfect for Catwoman. But when she finally does play Catwoman her hair is brown? :bawl: Awww, come on! :lmao: She was so close! :P But my point is that I think Hollywood is slowly getting it right more often with the casting, and Sohpie is an example of that with Jean Grey. |
Yes and no with regard to Sophie. Jean Grey is emphatically an American and Sophie comes off very British. However, Sophie is a damn good actress and that makes up for the nationality problem.

So you can actually tell that Sophie is British by her facial expressions, mannerisms, and body language, even when she's using an American accent?
|
She is rather reserved. Though I think it fits the character because she's usually scared to unleash herself in any way.
