Good observation.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is coming out soon, but still no sign of Adam Warlock.

I liked the first movie too. But you really need Adam Warlock for this story and he's not there.

A pretty important one, considering he took the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos. He's perhaps the most important character in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline. And the new Guardians of the Galaxy were created from the remnants of Adam Warlock and the Infinity Watch. Gamora is Adam's girlfriend, and Drax the Destroyer is Adams long time friend. Adam, Gamora, and Drax teamed up with Rocket Racoon, Groot, and Star Lord to create the new Guardians. But he was noticeably absent from the movie.

I gave The Infinity Gauntlet a wide berth. Frankly I think Thanos is overrated.

I actually preferred the old Thanos storyline from the 1970's, when he was after the Cosmic Cube(Tesseract), and also tried to use the Infinity Gems(then called the Soul Gems) to destroy Earth's sun as a gift to Death. The old Adam Warlock storyline from back then was pretty awesome. But I love the new storyline as well, with him and the Guardians.

Adam Warlock is one of those "cosmic superheroes" I mentioned before, Sarah. He's one of my favorites. It stings a little to see Gamora with Star Lord in the MCU when she's supposed to be Adam's GF.

Adam Warlock's story in the '70s included some pretty dodgy stuff -Counter Earth and all that crap. I've never cared especially about him. The cosmic superheroes aren't a big thing for me. They're a bit distant. I can enjoy some Silver Surfer from time to time, but that's about it. I did read a limited series in the '90s about Adam and the Infinity Watch that I liked, but it didn't provoke strong feelings. He's never been a priority for me.

I never paid much attention to the original Guardians of the Galaxy and I'm not familiar with the new ones in the comics, so I didn't come to the film with any special expectations. Though I did expect Drax the Destroyer to be a lot tougher. Turns out they made him a lot weaker in the comics in recent years. The old Drax wouldn't have been so easily defeated by Ronan the Accuser.

I know Rocket Raccoon from his original strip, reprinted in the old British Star Wars comics in the '80s. The film version is an mprovement.
