Thanks for those, dragonfire.

Since when is Kitty deserving to be a leader over Jean, Storm, or Rogue? You don't see anyone asking for Bobby or Remy to be a leader of anything.

sum1 is correct, dragonfire. Cyclops severed Logan's arm in Age of Apocalypse and it never grew back. Are they gonna retcon that as well?

Well, of course Charles Xavier's dream was never going to come true. The damn writers were always going to get in the way of that.

Jean and Rogue are not appropriate candidates for leadership. Kitty is a genius and has led the X-Men in the past. I know they made Rogue a leader in various comics, but it doesn't fit the Rogue I know. As for Jean... forget it.

Damn, okay. I do know that Jean has been a leader in the past as well, but I know you don't like her.

X-Men Makes Cyclops The Most POWERFUL Mutant Warrior
Quote:
The X-Men have recruited dozens of mutants and formed as many superteams over the years, typically with their own purpose, mission, or price to pay to achieve victory. But fans know there is only one true, born leader of the X-Men... and it's finally time for Cyclops to get the recognition, role, and authority that he truly deserves.

Those reading Marvel's current X-Men relaunch in the twin series House of X and Powers of X won't need a reminder of Scott Summers's leadership credentials, since the sacrifice of him and his team officially gave Marvel a future. When Charles Xavier told Cyclops that his mission to destroy mankind's Sentinel program was almost guaranteed to cost the lives of the X-Men sent to do it, his response was clear: "Does it need doing?... Then it will be done." Knowing it could cost him his life, Cyclops didn't hesitate--and he died a hero's death. But now that those dead X-Men have returned to life, it's time for Cyclops to get a new promotion, to a more powerful role than any he's had before.

By saving the future, Scott Summers, Logan, Jean, and the rest of the sacrificed team ensured that the fledgling mutant nation Krakoa would have a chance. Not just to be a safe space for mutants, but the start of an entire nation. Now that the leaders--Xavier, Magneto, and Apocalypse--have chosen the overall Quiet Council of twelve mutants to govern the first attempt at a standalone mutant society. But on an island filled with powerful mutants, soldiers, killers, and warriors, a select few are chosen to defend (or attack?) at the will of this new mutant leadership. The carefully selected team of soldiers is known as the 'Great Captains': Bishop, Magik, Gorgon, and Cyclops.

But to emphasize the unique role held by Scott Summers, Cyclops is also designated the 'Captain Commander,' operating as a "first among equals" and the leader of this elite unit. All four have demonstrated knowledge of attacks, warfare, and truly lethal use of their powers, but while their ranks may be shared, it is Scott Summers alone who can issue orders. That distinction should go without saying, even surrounded by strong leaders fit for the job. As a brilliant tactical thinker, a strategist, an intelligent officer, and a fearless warrior, this appointment will be seen as long overdue for many of his fans.

It's not yet known just what kinds of threats or "state-related incursions" Cyclops will be leading his Great Captains into danger to achieve, but the new line of X-Men teams and comics may shed some light on how those missions for Krakoa will unfold. As the anchor of the new flagship X-Men team and book, Cyclops's role as Captain Commander may precede the formation of his team (which would also explain why he's turned to so many members of the Summers family).

You always miss the nuance in my views. It's not a case of disliking her. It's a case of me recognizing that she's a limited character from her foundational design, who was upgraded in power, but not in personality. She dates back to an era when female characters in comics usually lacked personality and when characters like Jean were designed just to be ideals of a certain view of femininity. Such characters were often later on upgraded in power instead of being upgraded in personality. Other examples include the Scarlet Witch and Invisible Woman. I don't actively dislike Jean. I just don't find her remotely interesting. The red hair is the only thing she's got going for her. I wish Logan would get over her and go back to courting Storm.

I don't like this Krakoa mutant nation thing. It sounds a bit fascist to me.

Yeah, I get what you mean, sum1. Female characters back in the 60s did lack some depth and nuance, but that was I'm guessing due to the fact that the men who wrote them were writing their own interpretation of what women were like, or their own individual fantasies of what women were like. I think by the 70s you had a lot more female input into female characters, and more women were writing comics by the 80s. One of my favorite Spider-Man comics was Hooky, written by Susan K Putney, which was something right out of a Lovecraft novel. It was about Spider-Man trying to help a young girl whose destiny it was to destroy some type of demonic elder being, but also to help her grow up into a woman, which was the only way she'd be able to defeat the monster.

Wolverine gets a brand-new ongoing series at New York Comic Con
Quote:
Marvel Comics will launch a new Wolverine ongoing series, the company announced during the X-Men: Dawn of X panel at New York Comic Con this weekend. Because it’s a new dawn for the X-Men, that doesn’t mean they’re leaving all tradition behind.

The new book, called Wolverine, will be written by Benjamin Percy (Green Arrow, Teen Titans) with art from Adam Kubert (Captain America, Superman: Up In the Sky) and Victor Bogdonavic (New Super-Man, Action Comics).

The fast-healing mutant himself only recently returned from the dead, — a feat lately becoming common for the X-Men. After that, he spent some time with Loki, on a search for an Infinity Stone after a future version of himself told him to. Now, in House of X, he is reunited with the X-Men at long last.

“I couldn’t be more eager to put my own slash-mark on this legacy character, joined by one of the most iconic artists who’s ever hit the page, Adam Kubert,” Percy said at the panel.

Wolverine is the first book to be announced in the second wave of new X-Men titles spinning out of Jonathan Hickman’s House of X and Powers of X. The first wave of books will kick off on Oct. 16 with X-Men #1, followed by Marauders, Excalibur, New Mutants, X-Force, and Fallen Angels. So far, Wolverine is the only solo series to be a part of the new X-Men lineup.
