Oh, I really wish the MCU would make a Spider-Woman movie, or at least have her in The Avengers.

Forget it. Who wants a movie about somebody who started out as a goddamn real live spider. Yuck.

I've been studying how my favorite comic book artist, John Romita Jr, developed this century and I've been quite shocked to see how much his art has declined. His art has gotten blander and more cartoonish and he's introduced bigger heads and eyes and weaker bodies, less lines and less depth. It's tilting in the direction of Manga art. I hate Manga art and I hate its influence on American comic book art. When Joe Madureira replaced JRJR on Uncanny X-Men in early 1994, introducing a very Manga-influenced style, I was heartbroken and horrified. Now it's JRJR who's influenced by Manga. If anything I'd say JRJR's art is more kid-aimed than it used to be, certainly on Spider Man.

It's not all JRJR's fault. He's going with the trend in comic book art in recent years, which is toward blander drawing. But it's sad to see. I guess when I describe JRJR as my favorite comic book artist in the future I'll have to specify "20th century only", because his 21st century art is just not what I'm looking for.

Comic book art in general has gotten blander, more placid, meditative rather than forecful, and with murky colours. It doesn't grab you the way the old stuff did. It doesn't seem as alive or awake.

That sucks that it no longer is any good :wiggle:

Well, the great artists aren't around anymore. The new guys they have are kinda weak. It's all about getting attention rather than the subtle details.

crash landing 06-26-2017 06:44 PM

Even attention is bad for lack of details :thud:

The great artists aren't all gone. They just aren't doing great art anymore. And lack of subtle detail isn't the problem. Some of the modern comic art has plenty of subtle detail. The problem is lack of life and power, lack of force.

Use the force :thud: all within the power of the force :P

Well, even when they had that, guys like Todd McFarlane or Jim Lee or Rob Liefeld could go a little overboard. I didn't like it when four or five pages would be wall to wall art and I'd be like, guys, can we get back to the story?
