Groovy was the 60s, dragonfire.

It was a slang term the hippies used.

In the 70s, by the time people started hearing it every week on The Brady Bunch, people got sick of it.

In the 70s people were saying things like "solid!" and "right on!"

Not just them, but also the Avengers. He's the moron who came up with the seven-member rule(later six) that limited the number of Avengers who could serve on the team. He hate capes in general, not just mutants.
