Thanks for posting that link!

Well, the category is Best Young Actor/Actress, and I'm glad that Dafne got recognized, at least. And I knew that Patrick Stewart would get recognized in the Best Supporting Actor category! Not nominating Hugh or the movie is typical awards season bull, but let's hope that this allows Logan to gain momentum into the awards season. I'm hoping they'll do better at the Golden Globes, which is always more favorable to the fantasy/science fiction/horror genres.

Hugh Jackman is rarely ever considered for awards so it’s not surprising to me. He’s also often forgotten. As his fan, I’ve kind of gotten used to it. He’s almost never mentioned in people’s favorite actor lists. He’s usually not mentioned by critics. He’s rarely acknowledged for awards. I think part of me was hoping he’d be honored for Logan since he put so much into it and ended a 17-year run of playing this character, but it is what it is. Do I think he’ll get a Golden Globe nomination? No. The other two, maybe at least.

I used to think it's because Hugh rarely campaigns, but he actually tried the past couple of months and did campaign. Maybe it's because of his personality? Usually everyone so passionately talks about how nice a guy he is instead of his talent and acting ability. The irony is that he rarely promotes himself and he seems very humble, but when he does promote himself, he gets criticized. Many of the other actors promote themselves all the time, and when they do, they are apparently in the right because they are regarded as "better" actors.

I have no idea why so many movie fans forget about him too though. Usually, I see people arguing on other forums that, for example, Christian Bale was way better than Hugh in The Prestige, Jake Gyllenhaal was better than Hugh in Prisoners, etc. etc. I'm usually in the minority on forums when trying to give Hugh credit.

Hugh is a way better actor than CHristian Bale. Much more human. And in the Prestige, Christian Bale just pissed me off.

Hugh had the better role in The Prestige. His character was more central to the plot. Bale's character was more an antagonist. And what Bale's character did to his wife was reprehensible, putting her through all that without ever telling her the truth, which led to her hanging herself. I felt more sympathetic to Hugh's character having lost his wife in a stage accident because you-know-who didn't tie the right damn knot. And we never did find out which brother was the one responsible, did we?

Plus, Jackman had all those great scenes with David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. I loved that part of the film. Bale's character was just to facilitate the surprise twist ending.

And Hugh did get an Oscar nomination for Les Miserables, so it's not like he's never been recognized. It could be that he's just not Hollywood's type of actor that gets all the nominations, I don't know. But he's better than that and deserves recognition. Especially for Logan, where he acted his damn heart out.

Christian Bale pissed me off in The Prestige too.

Well, you're right ... Hugh did get an Oscar nomination for Les Miserables, but he wasn't always treated like he belonged there. I saw an interviewer behind the scenes at the Golden Globes that year ask him why he would emasculate himself by doing a musical, and I even recall a critic saying he had no chance, and that his Oscar nomination was merely out of pity. Then people like Adam Lambert trashed his performance. Ryan Gosling, in La La Land, wasn't nearly as good but he got treated with a lot more respect than Hugh did in 2013. Plus, 1 Oscar nomination is pretty much nothing. Most Hollywood A-Listers have been honored way more than that, including actors who have been in the industry for a much shorter time span than Hugh.

Then, I remember a movie critic review about Prisoners by James Franco from 2013 where he said, "Even though he gives a brilliant performance, I found myself asking, 'What is Hugh Jackman doing in this indie drama?' ... But back to the man of the hour and why I like this movie so much: Jake Gyllenhaal." I don't think Franco is the only one who feels that way.

Yeah, I think that's it. Hugh doesn't fit very well into Hollywood and doesn't play the game, and critics, SAG, and the Academy favor certain types of roles that he doesn't usually play. Maybe he'll at least get a Golden Globe nomination this year for The Greatest Showman though since they have a category specifically for musicals and comedies.

OMG, they said that about Hugh in Les Miserables? What, they don't think that he can do anything else but Wolverine? He can and he has. Adam Lambert can go himself. And you're right, they didn't say the same thing about Ryan Gosling when he did La La Land.

Let's wait and see what happens at the Golden Globes. And I'm also hoping that the BAFTA and SAG awards show Logan some love as well.

He's okay. I liked him in Drive. But he hasn't done enough to really wow me. Did you know that Hugh was up for that role as well?

I think Ryan Gosling is overrated too. Yeah, I remember that. Ryan Gosling got the role in Drive over Hugh, didn't he? Or did Hugh turn it down? I remember that Hugh was initially supposed to star in it.

I don't remember what the situation was, if Hugh turned it down or if the director just decided to go in another direction. I think the director knew Gosling personally and that's how that happened. But I did hear that Hugh was originally considered for the role.
